"WT Anderson was great! We had new fascia and soffit replaced on our two story home as well as new gutters and downspouts. Each time, the workers were on-time and thoroughly cleaned up after installation. We also had Hurricane Matthew damage and like others, we had to replace a damaged portion of our roof (given an old oak tree had fallen on our home). The repair for the roof was perfect. I had given them a broken piece of shingle and they matched it so when you look at our roof, you cannot tell where the repair was done. My wife and I have been very pleased each time we have used this company. We are actually are going to consider them for replacement windows here within the next few months. I have to add that their staff is terrific. I have never dealt with a home repair company who provides great customer service by phone, email and in person. Our sales rep, Jonathan, is hands down, an asset to this company. His professionalism, knowledge and non-pressure demeanor is what sold us in the very beginning. Allow WT Anderson to do an estimate for you. You will not be disappointed."

"Absolutely one of the best experiences we’ve ever had with a contractor! From start to finish Roofing Systems of Hampton Roads proved why they are consistently rated the highest of all roofing companies in our area. Our initial call was with Heather who was very welcoming and patiently answered all of our questions. From there, Jeremy came out to look at our roof and provided us with a well rounded list of options for both price and quality for us to chose from. We were so taken with how professional this process started out that we looked no further for estimates. This was our contractor. Roof installation was flawless! We were told to expect crews at our home at 7 a.m. They pulled up at exactly that time and worked tirelessly, in 104 degree heat, to complete the job. The crew was extremely professional and they were a happy crew! So important when you have anyone working on your home is that they are happy. Our home and flowerbeds were protected by tarps and they had someone constantly making certain that any roofing materials (old shingles, nails, paper) were quickly collected and properly disposed of. Our yard was cleaner when they left! Communication was seamless throughout the entire process. Every question answered. Every phone call returned. I can wholeheartedly recommend Roofing Systems of Hampton Roads to anyone looking to replace their roof or to have them do any work on their home."

"Chili was great in helping me select the perfect color for my new roof. He left samples and suggested I take notice of the roofs I liked in the neighborhood. The Jayhawk team was great. They arrived on time, were professional, detail oriented, & did a super job with clean up. Simply put.... my new roof is beautiful! My confidence in their work is priceless!"

"Dave Lobur and Princess Anne Contracting exceeded my expectations. They did a quality install, in a timely manner. Dave was on site majority of the time and his employees were professional. I had the house wrapped after the roof went on and two wrap contractors commented on how well the roof was installed."

"I Purchased a GAF Solar Shingle roof for my home, replacement skylights, gutters and downspouts. The sales rep, Jim Hester gave a thorough explanation of the products and took all the time I needed to answer my questions. The whole process from executing the purchase contract documents to arranging the financing took less than 48 hours for approval. HCR was in constant contact with me to keep me up to date on the progress details, including dates when people would be at my home to execute various stages of the project, what they would be doing and how long they expected to be there. Whenever I had additional questions, I received prompt answers. The entire process was professional, efficient and courteous."

"Excellent.  I bid 4 different roofers for the job.  It cost more than I was expecting but I haven't done a roof before.  Bevins was very cost competitive.  They also had as standard things that other bidders were charging as adders.  The workers were excellent.  I've never seen such hard working guys.  They arrived at 7am and worked until dusk Monday through Friday.  They finished up on Saturday.  They did a great job of cleaning up and making sure there weren't any nails and debris left over.
The roof looks great and I would absolutely use them again.

"The cleaning was done well, without damaging my middle-aged roof. Price was reasonable. The owner was prompt, perhaps too much so. (He pushed coming out the day that he responded to my request.) My only serious concern was that, after he provided an estimate for replacing another roof (my garage's), and I reached back out to him sometime later to take him up on the offer, he never responded back."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Norfolk, VA

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
