"What a company! A little more expensive than the companies that use air compressors to nail the roof but my last hand nailed roof lasted 26 years so I think hand nailing is the way to go. Bob started the quoting process by giving me homework! He explained that I should do a few things to repair my chimney. Told me exactly how to do it myself and what to buy. The other three roof quotes never mentioned it. As seen in other reviews his crew are nice guys. They came to work! A very good experience."

"Joe Hardy and the Roofsmith Team did a fantastic job. Joe worked closely with Allstate to get them to replace the roof when they only wanted to do a partial repair. Great customer service, and I was amazed that they were able to complete the roof in 1 day!!! Highly recommend!"

"Wonderful! Tom from Jilek was very personable and answered all of my questions. Once under contract, they fit me into their busy schedule quicker than I expected and arrived at 7 AM the appointed day with a large crew to remove and replace the roof. Excellent work, excellent clean up, and they were done before 1:30 PM the same day. Superb professionals who do high quality work."

"I have to say that I am impressed with their work and professionalism.  I would hire them again.   <br /> To be fair to other consumers I wanted to let people know that RJK Construction is responsive to their customers after the job has been performed.   I have had to call them back twice.  The first time was to let them know that the flat roofing that they installed over my three season porch had lifted allowing water leaked to leak into the interior of my home.  They used a foam board which was supposed to direct the water away from the house to the rain gutters on all three sides of the porch.   That didn't work and the rain collects in small pools at the center of the roof, eventually the material at the center of the roof and it failed.   Greg sent a team out to repair the roof immediately.     <br /> The flat roofing material on the three season porch still curls and lifts at the edges which worries me but  Greg said that that wouldn't hurt anything. It was still doing its job and that it hasn't cased any damage.  And it hasn't.  <br /> Recently, I've had to have a carpenter come out to replace two window sills that that had failed.   The carpenter told me that there had to be a reason for these sill to have rotted and  traced it up to the tops of the windows where he discovered that they siders forgot to put flashing behind the fypon (decorative moulding at the tops of my windows).   I called Greg immediately and he came out looked at it and is scheduling a crew to come out and put flashing behind the fypon.  <br /> My carpenter was impressed that RJK was still responsive to customers after this much time has passed.  I am too.  Unfortunately it has cost us $1,350 to fix the windows.    <br /> So, all-in-all... RJK stands behind their work. <br />"

"The work on our house went well. Jim Gilbert was so helpful in not only the design of the roof hood, but also with the the color of our siding and all the design details that would match the style of our house. We choose green vinyl siding with black shutters and white trim. The look of our house was totally transformed! Very happy with Jim and his team. The finished product was outstanding, we have not had any issues with the work that was done or the products that were installed. <br /> <br />"

"The carpentry was fantastic.. you would never know anything had been repaired. In fact, I think they did a better job than the carpenter who originally did the work. At all points in the process they gave us the lesser and more expensive options and the pro's and cons of each. <br /> <br /> The entire house ended up needing two coats of primer to do the job right. They did the second coat no charge, so we only paid for materials. <br /> <br /> Per code in Lakewood because of lead paint and because you don't want moisture trapped beneath the new paint (it bubbles and peels apparently), they hand washed the house instead of power washing. About half of the companies we had come out power washed and were immediately eliminated. They even came back after a year on their own to see if we needed any touch ups... we didn't because they were so thorough the first time through. It's been two years and we're still very happy with the job. <br /> <br /> They helped with color choices and happily gave answers to any questions we had... the friendly and personal touch we were hoping for. <br /> <br /> They weren't the very most expensive quote, but they were close. There are some things that are worth paying for... a paint job that looks good and will last a long time instead of needing repainting in 3 years is one of them. <br /> <br /> Our next door neighbor, who is just as particular as we are, used them as well because she was so impressed with their attention to detail, speed and cleanliness. She then recommended them to an aunt who was also very pleased... especially when they ethically charged her less than they quoted because the job was easier than anticipated. <br /> <br /> In all, this is a company to hire."

"Just had a new Owens Corning shingle roof installed by Legacy Roofing of Akron, Ohio; and, it was an outstanding experience from beginning to end - Thanks, in large part, to Rich Campbell, Project Manager. I can't say enough as to the interpersonal warmth and concern that Rich exhibited through the entire process. He wanted the best experience for us as he would have wanted for himself if it had been his own shingle roof being redone. Rich is more than a sales/project manager - he's a great guy to meet and know. The new shingle roof was professionally installed by a well managed team overseen by Rich. After the installation, Rich stopped by to review the installation with me to make certain the job was complete in its entirety. It looks great! I highly recommend Rich & Legacy Roofing."

"After the 3rd patch on my existing roof, it was time to replace the roof. Got an estimate from local roofer who did the repair, and from FB. FB was significantly lower for what has a strip and replace on a simple 2 plane roof. The estimator worked with me as a truckdriver with limited home time to schedule his estimate with my home time. He was pleasant and professional. On day scheduled for the work to be done, the workers, and equipment arrived as promised. They started about 8am and was done by noon. Cleanup was well done, and the dumpster for debris was gone by that afternoon."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in North Olmsted, OH

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
