"Keith Gavin Roofing is highly rated on google forms reason. He quickly and cheaply repaired my roof after a tree hit it on two separate occasions, and each time he and his crew were efficient, professional, and very affordable. Keith always quickly responds to texts, emails, and voice mails. I couldn't ask for more from a roofer. I hope I won't see him for a while, but if anything ever comes up I know all my roofing needs will be covered! I typically don't like leaving 5 star reviews as I think there is always room for improvement, but I genuinely can not think of a reason to knock a star off!"

"Great team, very professional and efficient. Everyone seemed to know exactly what had to be done and how. I found their pricing to be competitive. The task was completed in a day (traditional split-level ranch house, 28 sq ft roof) and so far, I think they have done a good job. The day before they had a dumpster brought to our driveway and some materials delivered. Then on D-day, a large team showed up on time, took away the old roof, installed ice and water shield, roof underlayment, drip and rake edge starter strip, replaced boots, installed GAF shingles, ridge vent and roofing caps, reflashed chimney, installed 2" insulation on sunroom area, and taped all seams."

"I was blown away by Weathertite Roofing in Bethlehem. I used them in November. I called and was surprised to reach a polite office manager after one ring (which is always the case whenever I call). They operate out of a well-run office with several employees. The company has been in business for over 20 years, it is a very smooth, well-oiled machine. The owner, Scott Fennelly, evaluates the job and comes prepared with satellite images and measurements of the roof. On the scheduled roofing day, an army of polite, hard-working, cheerful, considerate, men arrive punctually very early and my small roof was done in one day. The permits, dumpster, materials etc. are all taken care of, and the clean up is done with a magnet to pick up stray nails which can get in car tires or lawn mowers. A foreman is assigned to the job. If only all companies worked like this! It is an unbelievable hands- on, old -fashioned well-managed company with strong customer and work values. Their prices are reasonable and compatible with other companies. After the roof was done, I noticed the area around Bethlehem has many of their signs out in front of homes they work on. When I raved about them, it turned out Weathertite is well-known in the community to be excellent. There is a reason the company does most roofs around here! They really went the extra mile! I would give them more stars if I could! Truly, do not hesitate to use them."

"Lost some ridgeline shingles during a recent storm. Called a few roofing repair outfits. Albana, in the midst of coronovirus and with a limited crew, made it the next day for the quote AND repair. They really went above and beyond and it was a huge relief to get the job done. However, even if they WEREN'T able to make it the next day, Sonny and Al were fantastic and we'd still recommend them. Professional, quality work. A family business. Will definitely call them again for any roofing needs."

"They did a fantastic job, and really went above and beyond. At first, I graded them as a "B" for punctuality because it took several weeks for them to make it over to my house and take care of it, but this was only because the weather this fall and winter was so terrible that Scott got backed up and couldn't get here right away. I wasn't really an emergency case or anything, so it made sense to wait, and in the meantime, he was kind enough to send some guys over to put a tarp over the leaky spots (free of charge!). So they really shouldn't be penalized for something that was beyond their control, especially since they did extra work for free to keep the rain out until they could officially remedy the situation. (The tarp job itself was done well; shortly after they put it up, we had an insanely windy storm, and it stayed in place and kept the rain out through that and several other storms that followed.) Scott seems like a really good guy, with many qualities that I appreciate in a business owner: based on the limited interaction I had with him, it appears he’s practical, he listens, he’s straightforward, he thinks carefully about the issue and considers both the big picture and the details; he explains technical subjects clearly, in layman’s language, without trade jargon; he’s flexible and open-minded about working in slightly unusual or atypical situations, and he approaches projects individually, considering what the customer needs, rather than just applying standard fixes that might not always work for every home and every homeowner. (What I’m trying to say, without saying it, is that he’s able to “think outside the box,” but I hate that expression as much as I admire the people who do it.) I feel he gave my weird roof a lot of thought in terms of the best and most affordable way to address the problem. It's difficult - sometimes impossible - to know what's causing a leak until you open up the roof to see for yourself; until then, you can't necessarily predict what needs to be fixed or replaced, or give anything but an educated guess to estimate which supplies are needed, or how many hours it'll take to fix it. I had talked to other roofers who were reluctant to even look at the leaky areas unless I committed to getting a larger scale job done, which would make it worthwhile for them to deal with the skylights, etc. I completely understand that, and I know I would benefit from fixing the whole thing, but I'm very very very broke, so I was VERY appreciative of the fact that Scott was willing to give me an estimate based on an hourly rate - and allow me to choose between three different options. I opted for the most hours - 8 hours of work, three workers - in the hopes that they could fix the leaks and still have a little extra time to patch up the areas that past roofers had done poorly, or that time and weather had compromised. Under the circumstances, it was nice to feel as though I actually had some choice, and decision-making power! When Scott's schedule had cleared up a bit, he gave me about a week's notice that they'd be there, and lo and behold, they were! So many contractors/workers show up unannounced or not at all or at weird erratic hours...and often I feel like I have to hold their hands and tour them around and be available to explain stuff about which I have only the weakest understanding - or just BE there - but these guys came over, said hi, and went to work. All they needed was a power outlet. They were pleasant, and polite, and friendly and professional. They finished up within the timeframe agreed upon. They weren't even that noisy! They did manage to cover every possible source of the leaks that they could find by applying sealant and flashing in the affected areas and areas above that would provide a path for water. With the leftover time, they tidied up and fixed the other problem spots, and added trim and flashing in spots that had been neglected. They worked over the time I'd paid for in order to finish up. They cleaned everything up, and they did NOT then proceed to tell me how effed up the roof had been, or what morons my previous roofers were, or what an idiot I’d been for hiring anyone who wasn’t them. No long boring speeches about how THEY would have done it. No mansplaining. They didn’t make me feel like Mr. Blandings. Such a refreshing change! Also, I didn't have to worry about giving them a payment that day, which was wonderful - Scott said I had 10 days upon completion to send the payment, and is also flexible with payment methods. (Again- I often have contractors who want payment at the end of every day - sometimes in advance for supplies - and often ask for cash only, or at least a check, which defeats the whole purpose of credit cards, the point of which is to cover unexpected roof emergencies!) I can’t swear that every detail was permanently resolved, because I personally did not climb onto my roof to look at what was done, and if I had, I wouldn’t know what was done, because I am not a roofer or a carpenter. I do know a) that the roof has not leaked since the day the tarp went up, despite awful weather, and b) all the past sloppy work and exposed nails and floppy, torn shingles and missing flashing appears to have been remedied. It looks tidy and sturdy. So, I’m giving them an A – if the roof caves in tomorrow, I’ll post an update."

"<p>They were on time every morning at 7am sharp.  Most of the roof had 2 layers of underlayment which needed to be removed.  One part of the roof had 4 or 5 layers which needed to be removed.  They were here for 4 days and the site was spotless each evening.<br /> <br />I was amazed at how well the work crew worked as a team and their enthusiasm was appreciated.  For the most part, they treated my home as if it was their own.  The work was very hard but I got the strong opinion that they truly liked their job.<br /> <br />Once all roofing material was removed, plywood was put in place over the 1825 metal roof for a smooth surface.  Ice and Water sheets then had to be put over the entire roof, due to the 3/12 pitch, with 3 tab shingles put above them.  Once the roof was completed, 6" gutters were installed by A-1 Gutters in Manchester in a 3 hour timeframe.  Their work was likewise fast and flawless.<br /> <br />DZEN's quote came in within the same range as other roofing companies but, contrary to the experiences of other owners of historical homes that I know, the job was performed in a relatively flawless manner.  More importantly, Dean and Tom listened to every question I had about the 200 year old roof and accommodated my concerns every time.<br /> <br />Historical homes are often difficult to work on.  My house has been totally renovated over the past 3 years and I waited to have the roof done last because I knew it was going to be a very big undertaking.  But DZEN Residential Roofing made it seem like an easy job though I truly know it was not.<br /> <br />For personalized care, attention to duty, and overall quality... they hit it out of the ballpark on this one.</p> <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in North-westchester, CT

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
