"Working with Alpha Roofing and Emily was really easy. The estimate was turned around very quickly, and came in under the estimate from the insurance company. They worked with us on the installation date, delaying at our request until it was a good time for us. The installation was very quick; while it was noisy as they told us, it was bearable (dogs were in the basement den with the TV on). Clean up was great. Gutters were done by a subcontractor that was less than ideal; they did not call in advance, and they did not pick up roofing nails that fell out of the gutter when they removed it (luckily I found them before the dogs' feet did). That being said, they were quick, and they did take care of a rotting soffit at a reasonable price. Alpha used an impact-resistant shingle that our insurance rep said will reduce our premium. We have also noticed (or not noticed) that we can't really hear the rain on the roof anymore."

"The roof came first. The crew worked like a well oiled <br /> machine. They took off the old roof and <br /> put on the new one. They did a thorough <br /> job cleaning up. The gutters were next. <br /> The crew was equally efficient with installation and clean up. Finally, the gutter cover installer did an <br /> outstanding job. I would be proud to <br /> recommend Appelhanz Roofing. Also, I <br /> need to mention that all the employees were friendly and helpful; especially <br /> Cindy whom I never met, but only talked to on the phone <br />"

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"I give them the top rating, he did a really good job. <br /> <br /> The price was fair and reasonable. He's really good, professional guy. He did the work himself and took about two days to complete. He left the area pretty clean when done. He took his time, good craftsmanship. He explained what type of windows used and how they work.  <br /> <br /> I plan on using him again."

".Called Garrison Roofing on Monday, April 21st to request an estimate. John Garrison came by the next day to introduce himself and look at my roof. I received his estimate the next day, the 23rd. My wife and I had to go out of town so I wasn't able to get back to John until Monday, May 5th. I was so impressed with John, his professional, yet casual, friendly style. His knowledge of the roofing business (started in the early 80's) that I didn't even get another bid. (After all aren't we all just looking for someone we can trust). He just left me with that feeling. He called me on Wed. the 7th and said that he could do the roof on Friday & Saturday the 9th and 10th. The shingles (30 year Heritage Tamko), 30# felt, and other accessories were delivered on Thursday. The work crew showed up at 9:00 am Friday. They had to take off my old shakes, put on the plywood substitute, along with drip edge venting ( I have no soffits) and put on the new shingles. The crew worked till 8:30 that night, came back the next morning and were gone by 11:00 Saturday morning. I told John that I was so pleased with his company that I was going to keep his sign in my yard all summer. <br />"

"The crew did a great job! It took them about 2-1/2 days to complete. They cleaned up the yard and swept (with magnet) every evening before leaving. In the past 2-1/2 years we've found only one roofing nail in a flower bed, so they were very thorough with their clean-up. This was important to us since we have small children. During their work, one of the crew accidentally dropped a heavy piece of machinery from the roof and it hit the railing on our back porch, leaving a huge gouge and exposing some raw wood. The owner came within the next two days and repaired the wood, primed the spot (his own materials), and used our exterior paint to finish it up -- all at his own expense. He left the railing looking better than it had before the damage. We were extremely impressed with their quick response and ready acceptance of their responsibility. They were very apologetic, even though we were not upset. We will use this company again whenever we need their services. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Oskaloosa, KS

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
