"We hired superior roofing to install a brand new roof as our 30 year old roof was tired and was losing more and more shingles with every storm. Their price was competitive and the new shingles are good for 50 years! Our roof was completed from start to finish in one day! It looks fantastic, I chose my shingle color from quite a variety of choices and I couldn’t be happier. Since this was done in December, they told me to call in the Spring and they will do a second round of yard clean up to make sure it’s clean and safe. I would highly recommend Superior Roofing!"

"Great. They started with a 6:00 am materials delivery. The work crew arrived at 8:00. By 2:00 they were done and cleaned up the debris. We have had plenty of rain to check for any leaks. None have been found. It looks great."

"I don't give 5/5 stars on a review often, but I was extremely impressed with the work LR Higgins did on a water damage project on my house and would not hesitate to hire them again. Dean was our project manager and did an excellent job. We had damage internally from water that had seeped behind our siding which resulted in deck rot (because flashing wasn't previously applied correctly) and internal wall damage in the basement. The 3-man team that worked on the project was detail-oriented and focused on doing the job "right" rather than doing it quickly (which I greatly appreciated) but also did their best to make the exterior work blend and match the rest of the siding so it would not stand out like a sore thumb. The cost was reasonable for the work done and I felt like the work was high quality. I had unsuccessfully contacted 3 other companies for estimates before contacting LR Higgins and either wouldn't get my calls returned or they didn't show up for the estimate. Eric Higgins was very responsive via email, called me back after I left my first message about the issue, and I was in contact with him via email several times during the project. He always responded. I would definitely recommend this contractor group and use them again for work on my house."

"Ruck Roofing’s crew was professional, worked really fast and did a great job removing the old failing IKO roof and installing new Owens Corning architectural shingles. There were no messes, no damaged shrubs, and the yard was just as clean as before they started. The final cost was exactly as quoted and was very competitive. Thank you Bill Ruck & Crew!"

"I compared The Roof Doctors to other companies and their response was much better than anyone else's. They were quick to respond and they were willing to come out and check things out. They gave me an estimate but they gave me three different options, depending on the quality of the shingle that I chose. I wanted some other stuff, including adding venting to the soffits. They responded quickly, we set it up. They came on time, got it done in two days and they did a great job. It was done very quickly and efficient. It was very well done. The roof is guaranteed, so I feel confident that if I have a problem, they would respond quickly."

"I had a horrendous paint job done by a local hack who did super on interior but did not know what he was doing when he said he can do exterior, too. It failed in 6 months. So I waited almost five years to write this review to see how it would hold up. So far so great! They did an excellent job of prep which in my case was scraping down to bare cedar clapboards and even indulged my anxiety and primed the 50 year old galvanized nail heads which also got scraped of course. They got me in touch with a contractor who did some wood repair quickly (although I have not had as much luck getting them back to do other stuff, guess Clarke had the magic touch there). Joe did most of the work back then on my house and he was excellent. He stayed on it till it was done, no disappearing acts. I recommended Clarke to a neighbor for interior work and they liked them too."

"I received excellent service as witnessed by my contracting with this company for three different jobs. Estimates were firm and all jobs were done and finished as scheduled. Company has returned for upgrades adding snow stops over doors and checking and repairing caulking where needed. Crew is professional and consults with the owner when necessary. The new roofs have solved the ice dam problems that are often found in Maine on old houses. Standing seam steel roofs can be an expensive option, but these roofs will last forever and pay for themselves by not needing replacement every 10-20 years. This is one of the most positive experiences I have had with a major contractor. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Oxford, ME

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
