"Met the owner, Mr. Michael Chu at the January 2013 BIA Show and was impressed by the company culture of professionalism and dedication to their industry. After contacting MRC, estimator arrived the next day and promptly at the arranged time. He provided us with an verbal estimate and delivered a written estimate the next day. The work was scheduled for the following week. The work crews arrived as scheduled. Day one crew powered washed, cleaned, repaired, prepared the roof for the new coating and applied the first coat of Gaco S-20. Rain did hamper the process but luckily it was not heavy and constant rain, the crew was able to complete their assigned work. Day two crew removed , replaced the existing skylights, installed the two new solar powered roof fans, sealed the new fan vents with the roofing sealant and applied the second coat of Gaco S-20. Day three crew finished up the final coating on the lower lanai and even sealed an older rain gutter from leaking! Each crew leader and his crew were very professional, courteous and clean. <br /> MRC has a cooperative working relationship with the solar power vender to coordinate the install of PV panel roof mount brackets and anchors the newly sealed roof. <br /> Overall very pleasant experience, would business with MRC again! Highly recommend MRC <br />"

"Concerned about "spongy" flat roof prior to installing photovoltaic system.  Determined that it should be replaced and contracted David's.  Tear off and reroof very time efficient; two crews for part of the time due to scheduling compensations - your milage may vary.  Discovered that abutting sloped roof had water under the shingles.  Contracted for sloped roof replacement.  Relatively efficient: the shingles had been tarred down (!?), but no adjustment charged for harder labor.  Damaged wood, cracked skylights and standing water in gutters observed during work: personally verified after shown pictures.  The solar water system had been problematic and after disconnecting to allow roof work, confirmed that so many components should be replaced, that a new, more efficient system was a better long-term choice.  <br /> David's has the resources for any size job - delay from a tough prior job compensated by partial double crew.  This may not always happen.  I liked the elevating dump truck that mnimized debris scattering from the second floor roof, but the clean-up was pretty good anyway.  David's is pretty popular and therefore pretty busy - scheduling could go out a month or more, especially if you wait for the pre-rainy season rush. <br /> David called to thank me after each contract stage/deposit and after complete payment.  Daughter Davelyn is the general manager and came out after each problem came up reported by the crew chief.  Yes, she zipped right up the ladder to see what was up and then explained to me.  She and the scheduler, Micah, seem quite busy, but always willing to answer my questions and concerns.  <br /> David, and maybe Davelyn, review each job scope (photos) and estimate, the story is, because he stands behind the work.  I really won't know for sure without going through some rain cycles, but I feel pretty good.  I don't want to read too much into it, but the fact that everyone takes the time with a single homeowner suggests a top to bottom commitment to service.  You could probably find a better price or quicker turnaround out there, but there's something in the assurance that they will be around next year and the year after that. <br />"

"The Aloha Roofing estimator was polite, knowledgable and answered any and all questions. The roofing contractor was fast, efficient and had a very hard working crew. The job was estimated to take 4 days and it was done in 3. The finished roof looks great and there were no leaks or problems during some showers that occurred during the re-roofing as well as after everything was done. The crew did a decent job of cleaning up after themselves. <br /> The price might seem steep but the cost of everything in Hawaii is much higher than most other states in the union. I felt that when comparing estimates with other roofers that Aloha's estimate was the most realistic and on the mark. <br />"

"Sean and his foreman Chris did a great job of repairing all of the dry rot on my home (approximately 200 linear feet), priming the new lumber, caulking and sparkling all of the work, pressure washing the house, and repainting the house and gates. Sean also replaced my bathroom light fixture, repaired one of our outdoor faucets, removed all of our raingutters, and filled the gutter downspout holes in the sidewalk with concrete. Sean was able to contact a roofer to take up and replace the shingles that needed to be removed to do the repair work as well as a company to replace the gutters. The whole project took about 3 weeks. Thank you Sean and Chris--the house looks great!"

"The communication was good, appointment(s) easily made/kept always, work completed as agreed and exceeded my expectations. I've worked with Maui Roofing before when having my entire roof rebuilt and the work quality was excellent. I chose these folks again and it was an even better experience. I would absolutely recommend this roofing business and work with them anytime."

"Called to repair roof when it leaked. It took a week of constant calling before Mike came to access the problem. Roof was patched 1/21/11. It leaked again during next rainfall(2/6/11),Called Jody 2/7/11. Leak patched on 2/25/11. It leaked again on 2/27/11. I called again to inform of leak. Work was scheduled for 3/8/11. No one showed up at appointed time. I called to find out that the workman was sick for the day. No one called to inform me. Another repairman was sent and the leak was finally addressed. I had to call constantly to remind them of the leak."

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Pearl City, HI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
