What really stood out was how he went above and beyond to make sure everything was working perfectly before leaving. It’s hard to find someone this reliable and dedicated. "Both father and son are experienced and knowledgeable. They seem up to date on current codes and products. They were quick to start and finished installing two difficult water heaters in half a day. They had to make some small adjustments because of our old house which were done well"

"Be prepared: You don't just pay for the work done on your house. You start paying 105.00/hour from the minute your plumber is dispatched - no matter where he is coming from, yes, no matter where he is - in my case it was 20 minutes and I was told (by the woman who dispatches) that I was 'lucky' he was in the area. Then, before anyone starts working on your problem, there is a one time 20 dollar fee for equipment - huh, I'm paying for the plumber's equipment? And then, in my case, I had to pay an extra 30 minutes while we waited for a friend of the plumber's to come to help him carry the equipment out of my backyard. When I called to question having to pay for the 30 minutes of extra time, I was lectured by a condescending woman about why all these additional fees were required - from HER point of view. Yes, to her, it made perfect sense that I was charged yet another 50+ dollars for 'waiting' for someone to come and carry equipment from my back yard. Even though Joe was great (I'd hire him again), I will not return to A & R Plumbing - 2 of my neighbors saw A & R's truck and asked about my experience and I had to tell the same. At the end of the day, I was charged 215.00 for 45 mins of labor - watch out for those hidden fees."

"My heat pump installations couldn't have been done better - if I could give them more stars, I would. They proposed the right solution at a good price, and then proceeded to over-deliver in many ways. Every action that was taken was done on time, as planned, and with nice additional touches. For instance, when they needed in light in our basement, rather than brining in a portable light, they installed a light fixture for them to use, and for me to have in the future."

"There really isn't much to say about the drain cleaning other than I had a clog, I called them, they came when they said they would and now I don't have a clog. Can't ask for more than that. I also had a complete shower enclosure installed and the job was top notch. No cutting corners here. Rest assured the job will be done right the first time. I was really impressed with the quality of work. Lastly, I had a water heater relocated from the house to the garage. Once again, everything was expertly installed. Very impressive work and they left the job cleaner than when they arrived. You will not be disappointed. <br />"

"Service man did the work, flushed the water heater and lines, but additionally replaced angle valves, supply lines, and fill valves on two toilets and a flapper on one without consulting me first. Shotgun replacement is not my preferred fix, considering environmental impact and waste, especially if no problem is being solved. I personally verified that both toilets were working well the night before the service, the tanks were " full of rust " on the invoice, but only had an iron stain and discolored water. I replaced the kitchen faucet on my own after service man recommended a cartridge replacement. 2 shutoff valves and risers: 184.14 new fill valve: 120.24 new fill valve/flapper: 232.25 water heater flush: 74.26 (was offered free by service man conducting previous sewer re-pipe, mentioned this to service man and office before service) All I asked for was a system flush, no more. My overall recommendation after two jobs: this is a company delegating responsibility and oversight to individual contractors in the field who are separated from management. Be careful of varying work quality, manage your service provider to ensure only the work you want is done. Inspect the job thoroughly to request improvements before he/they leave the site."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Pebble Beach, CA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
