"Douglas Macario stated the mulch they use lasts in color about 6 months on average. A few things went wrong when they finished for the day & we didn't notice until coming home later that same day. -They aggressively cut back the 5 bushes immediately in front of the house down to the root killing all 5 plants. -They did not clean out the gutters as agreed to & were still completely clogged that ensuing rain in the days that followed caused the gutters to overflow from the eaves instead of going through the gutters. -They also cut back & trimmed my neighbors plants on an adjoining section of our front yards which we did not agree to nor did they get my neighbors permission. The 3-4 bushes on our neighbors property are very clearly on their side of the property line & not on ours. In coming home that day to find these issues, I immediately called Douglas to complain. He stated the site manager made a decision to aggressively cut back the bushes & assured me they would grow back. He also told me they would send the guys back out early next morning to clean the gutters. I hadn't spoken to my neighbors at the time but told him that if they had issues with the cutting/mulching, I would not be responsible. The crew came out 3 days later but still didn't blow out the gutters as they had agreed & had been paid to. I texted Douglas again to state the work still hadn't been done. Douglas' stance completely changed & he replied, "My guy that got up said they're as clean as a whistle. They checked all the gutters." I sent him a photo of the clogged hole at the end of the gutter. Someone stopped by later that day & finally cleaned them out. On a routine grass cutting June 3, they cut the grass but didn't blow the patio surface as they stated they would. We were told all hard surfaces would be blown of grass & debris after cutting. I brought it up to Douglas & he took the same approach as before & stated it should've been blown. We gave him the benefit of the doubt and decided it wasn't worth the effort to pursue it further, particularly with other more pressing personal issues. On another routine grass cutting July 1, the front yard bed started growing grass where a simple swipe of a weed eater would have taken care of them. The rest of the grass was cut but this section was left growing for some reason. We also noticed the mulch at this point was already started to lose its color after 2 months. I texted him regarding the July 1 service issues & gave him two full weeks to reply. We were completely ignored. By that time, we felt we had given them plenty of chances to make good on what they were paid for and to rectify the issues. I emailed them July 13 to cancel their biweekly services & requested a refund for the 5 plants that had not survived their cutting. Their advertisement states, "My 'No-Hassle, No Excuses, NO-NONSENSE, You'll Love it OR We'll Pay For it!' GUARANTEE. If for any reason you feel you're not 100% happy with our work, I WON'T BE HAPPY EITHER! I will immediately send my team to fix the problem, no questions asked. If it's still not good enough, we will pay a competitor of your choosing to fix it for you." Capitalized letters are in the Macario Brothers advertisement and not ours. Through a series of emails and texts between Douglas Macario and Ashlee Ray, they offered to replace the bushes themselves but we declined. After the poor quality of workmanship we received, we no longer trusted they could perform the job and did not want to run the risk of our drip irrigation hose being damaged in the process. They then requested we send a quote to replace & plant the bushes and we obliged. Macario Bros. then decided they wanted the quote from the new company to be on company letterhead and to show proof they were insured as a business. The new company we're working with is a self employed semi-retired individual who does not generate documents on a company letterhead. We believe this superfluous request is another way to weasel out of paying for their negligence. We also believe they should have no say in who we choose to repair their damage & that they should adhere to their guarantee. This is especially after we paid for it. A month after the July 1 email to cancel their services & request a refund, they have given us excuses to avoid reimbursing us for their damage. We have given them every opportunity to avoid this & have filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They've chosen to ignore the complaint so far & have not responded after 3 weeks. Our next step is to take them to small claims court. The dollar amount is negligible but it is the principle of the matter. Their unwillingness to right a wrong is what we have a problem with."
