"Tim and his Team at Des Moines Area Roofing were the best to work with. Tim came to our house reviewed our insurance papers with us and made sure we were comfortable with the work they were going to perform. He took extra time and drove us by some houses he completed earlier to help us decide on a couple shingle colors. Once we made our choice they did everything they could possibly do to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. They were up front with cost and explained that nothing but the best would be acceptable. I highly rate Des Moines Are Roofing to anyone looking for a high quality roofing company."

"Very professional. Sonntag replaced the roof due to age and then we got the hailstorm and we again called them to take care of it. Tyler has been excellent in going thru everything each time. Pictures were taken and submitted to the insurance company. The crew was very good and finished each time the same day. The hail damage also included damage to guttering which they took care of. They did an excellent job with the clean-up. I would recommend Sonntag Roofing to family and friends."

"Arpy's did my siding, soffits, facia, gutters, replaced two windows, and cut in two new windows. Each day of the project the crew showed up to the job site on time and were very professional. At the end of each day they cleaned up my driveway, so I could park in it.. as well as cleaned up my deck and yard so i had no fear of my dogs stepping on a nail or something sharp. I'm very happy with the completed job, and would definitely recommend them to anyone."

"Extremely professional and efficient operation. The crew foreman contacted us by phone to discuss venting options (bathroom vent). All cleanup and shingling completed in one (1) day. Foreman also explained there was a 50%-50% chance that the DISH service may be interrupted - but it was fine after they removed and reattached the dish. It was raining lightly in the afternoon but the crew had the critical roof sections sealed off by the time it began raining. <br /> The owner, Ryan Johnson, put us at ease the moment we met him and we hired Right Roofing as soon as he completed the explanation of their services, guarantee, etc. We were impressed that Ryan had a prepared list of houses in our Urbandale area that Right had completed.  We were able to visit many of these houses to view shingle colors prior to ordering. <br /> We would not hesitate to hire them again - or serve as a reference for anyone looking for a roofer. <br />"

"The job took a long time to get started due to ordering parts and an injury to an installer (2 months from initial visit to completion. It was expensive for one window but the work/product looks great."

"The team came out and found that what I thought was a roof leak was actually condensation from a vent run, and said there was nothing he could do but recommended a good local contractor. I was grateful for the expertise and honesty, and did sign him up to do some other routine roof maintenance which was offered for a very reasonable price. Charged me nothing for identifying the problem and the original trip out."

"We had used Roofsmart to do the siding on our new workshop and was so pleased with the work we contacted Grant about doing the repair work. He helped us assess the work needed to repair the damage. Grant made sure all the materials needed where there. Caesar did all the repair work in one day and it looks great. Caesar is a real craftsman. Thank you. We have used your services twice and have been pleased with the outcome both times!"

"Calls were returned promptly.  A fee is charged for an estimate.  If you proceed with the estimated repairs, the estimate is credited against the total charges for the repairs.  The work was scheduled for a specific date and time and was completed exactly as promised.  The roof was shingled in 2001 and EJS found the exact shingles used so that the repair is entirely invisible.  The source of the leak turned out to be improper initial installation of the shingles around the vent stack by another roofing company.  All the interactions with EJS were professional and they let me know they stand behind the work they have done.  I would use this company again because of their obvious expertise, skill, dependability and courtesy. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Pleasantville, IA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
