"We had a bad hail storm. Josh replaced steel siding and roof on my pole building. Also installed windows, doors and screen doors on it as well with the trim. Josh also took of old shingle on my house and replaced it. He was on time, does great work, and always had my my best intrest in mind. I am going to hire him again to put new windows in my house as well as the siding."

"We had a couple leaky faucets and some loose electrical fixtures wanted a handyman to come take a look. Dakota was great to talk to, giving us an idea of what it would take to fix our plumbing issues and quickly fixing our electrical issues. He charged a very reasonable price ($30), considering that he was at our house for an hour or so"

"High quality work!! We needed some board replaced on our deck and he did a fantastic job and cleaned up his mess so well - deck cleaning could be another service they offer!!! Very pleased with the work and the price. I knew up front what it would cost and he allowed me to make changes when he arrived to do the work. The estimate was fair and he worked very hard - and late into the evening to finish up the deck. Would certainly recommend Dallas!!"

"Exceptional work and a true professional. Highly recommend and would happily hire Codey again. Codey helped us complete a partially finished basement office by adding trim and casing around two doors and an egress window, installed a bifold closet with trim/casing, and added baseboards around the room. His work was clean and detailed and the room looks great due to this. He also fixed several issues from a previous contractor along the way, including resizing a door cutout that was too small, adjusting another door that never closed properly, and installed a header for the closet that a previous contractor did not. Overall his work was exceptional, he was transparent on all aspects of the project, very polite, and completed ahead of schedule. Highly recommend."

Been a carpenter for over 20 years in the Des Moines area. Have worked with many different builders and realtors over the years doing simple tasks to complex builds and remodels. I enjoy my work and will never leave a project I cannot live with myself.

"Todd was very efficient in dismantling the hood, cutting a hole through the wall to the outside, laying the piping, sealing, and testing the new setup. What impressed me was the fact that he didn’t try to sell me a new hood. He also was very conscious of any messes he may make, laying down drop clothes, etc. and disposing of his garbage in appropriate receptacles. I was very happy with the time it took him to do the job. Super quick, yet high quality work. From what I have experienced thus far (I have him booked for a couple other projects), Todd is a stand-up trustworthy guy who knows what he’s doing. He is super busy so it may take him a while to respond to inquiries, but he’s definitely worth the wait. I would highly recommend him to family & friends."

"Great ! Owner Tim came out and did an emergency tarp -- in the rain, as my BR ceiling was leaking. Jan ( office manager ) worked with my insurance until the bid & repairs were enough to give me a great outcome. Their repair guy was professional, friendly and did a good job. I would not hesitate to use them again & to recommend them !"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Polk City, IA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
