"Spartan Shield negotiated with my insurance company to get the entire roof replaced for the cost of my deductible. A new skylight was installed as recommended by Spartan Shield. The work was performed promptly and in accordance with the shingle manufacturers specifications. I would recommend them to anyone needing a new roof."

"I obtained three estimates for the job. Mike did an excellent review of the work to be done. He was on time (a little early in fact, but that was fine) and was very friendly. We went to their office on that Friday to pay for half the job and to pick out a shingle color for the new roof. Amanda told us it would be about two weeks. We received a call the following Tuesday that they had an opening for Wednesday and were we available. We said 'yes' and they completed most of the job in one day, with Don coming back on Thursday to finish some odds and ends."

"Our contractor hired Mid-Shore Exteriors to replace the roof on the house we had just purchased in November 2014. We were very happy with the look of the roof, and I believe they were in and out in one day, leaving nothing behind. I haven't had need to call them until a few days ago when we noticed a small leak coming through a small hole in our bedroom ceiling where we had anchored a hanging light fixture. I called on a Sunday, and they returned my call on Monday saying they would call back the next day to set something up. I was out of town and missed their call and completely forgot to call them back, so they very easily could have brushed it aside and waited until I called again. Instead, they sent a contractor to the house to see if he could come back the next day to take a look at the issue. He came the next day, identified the problem, and repaired the roof, which took several hours, and then they were on their way. Now, a few days later we just had a torrential downpour, and not a drop of water to be seen!"

"The folks at All Exteriors were VERY good. They answered the first call to them, made an appointment and a representative arrived ahead of time to do the repair work needed. The job could have neen completed withtn three hours of my initial call but the craftsman who was doing the repair did not like the match of his available parts to what was on our home. He said they woyuld make the correct sized piece and replace it for a better appearance to our home. He was right! The repair looks great and they DID NOT charge extra for the making of the new part!"

"Initially communication was spotty until timelines were fully set. Once work began everything was great from his end. My condo developed a roof leak and the association had to repair it 3 times, This completely ruined his timelines and he was fantastic about postponing/putting off work in affected areas. Floor and paint look great. Attention to detail was excellent down to 1 1/2 inch long mitered shoe molding pieces in closet areas. We are very satisfied and will be using him again in a bathroom remodel this Sept."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Powellville, MD

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
