"It was a great experience working with Ken....what you would hope to find in a contractor. He did what he said he would do when he said he would for the price quoted. He and his crew are very conscientious; they were careful not to damage finished portions of the home during the project and cleaned up daily. Ken is very creative and is willing to collaboratively discuss ideas. Ken offers good "best practices" tips as well. Ken is flexible with respect to job scope....meaning if you as the homeowner want to do some of the work yourself. I had originally planned on laying the tile myself as a "weekend warrior",  but ran out of time at the end of summer. The living room and one of the bathrooms were torn apart, We wanted to have the house put back together before school started back up for everyone. KC Star <strong>competed the job in 3 days</strong>. It was a good balance Ken & crew got the floor down, we are tackling some of the lesser finish oriented projects such as painting and trimming, The quality is outstanding; Ken pays close attention to detail. We would definitely recommend and use KC Star again! <br />"

We specialize in landscape design and landscape construction, as well as custom outdoor woodworking. A majority of the work we do is general landsaping including patios, retaining walls, and plantings. Unlike many other small landscaping companies, owner Ryan Davis has a degree in horticulture, 11 years of experience with many of the best in the Rochester area and has been a Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Assoc. (MNLA) certified professional since 2007. Ryan also has experience in other construction trades including sheet metal fabrication/installation, cabinetry and trim. While the business focuses primarily on landscaping, Ryan has the tools, knowledge, and experience that goes above and beyond most other landscapers.

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Racine, MN

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
