"Six months after our wedding my husband and I purchased our first home together. Our eclectic Southwest hills home was built in 1890 with a modern kitchen addition and renovation of the main floor family space. As newlyweds, we quickly realized that blending our furniture and individual styles was going to be a challenge. We recognized the need for a third party to blend our aesthetics and help create an overall design flow to the house. After interviewing a designer who was not interested in working with us in a collaborative way I grew weary of the idea entirely. I eventually found Nifelle design through their rave reviews on Angie?s list. At the time of our initial meeting I was four months pregnant and eager to have a finished home to bring our son home to. After meeting with Jennifer I immediately felt comfortable with her aesthetic and approach.
I wanted an acquired look and feel but it needed to be brought together quickly. With Jennifer?s guidance our home is filled with custom window coverings, hand knotted rugs, incredible art and a beautiful collection of refurbished antiques mixed with new upholstery pieces. Sentimental family pieces were incorporated into the design as well. My mother?s Chinese silk rug became the inspiration piece for the guest room and several chairs have been thoughtfully reupholstered and given a second lease on life.
It was important to me to be involved in every decision of the process, so Jennifer and I worked closely together to first draft up a plan and then begin filling in the space. She thoughtfully considered my requests, and brought me options at different price points for each room. Knowing that my husband has more modern tastes than I, Jennifer made suggestions for modern light fixtures and touches in several rooms to balance our styles. Each room is unique in design while still fitting into the greater picture of the house. My absolute favorite room is my son?s nursery. It is, in my opinion completely magazine worthy! Jennifer worked with a relentless enthusiasm and professionalism that made it a real joy to have her around. She had a broad set of talents that make her the perfect companion to an antique store or art gallery.
Nifelle Design is my one stop shop for all our design needs. Jennifer replenishes my orchids as needed and has been known to plant new flowers in the outside planters leaving my husband throughly confused as he know I have never planted a thing in my life. During the Holidays I asked Jennifer if she would decorate both the exterior and interior of our home. Our home (and especially our tree) was a showpiece.
Our home is beautiful and a joy to come home to. Our friends and family marvel at how beautiful it turned out, and at how functional and useable our furniture is. It has been a wonderful experience working with Jennifer and her team, and I cant imagine our house being as perfect without her.

"

"
In a word... Excellent! Anna was our landscape architect, and provided an excellent solution that will provide soil stabilization and year-round color to a problem area of our yard. During the review of her planning work, Anna was extremely responsive and flexible to our questions or requests. We agreed upon a plan, and she then came out and oversaw the plants' placement in order to ensure her landscape planning was planted correctly.

I wish I'd contacted Drake's 7Dees long ago! Anna was outstanding to work with. She ensured that she understood our objectives and desired outcomes for this project. I would recommend her without reservation as someone who works to understand your objectives and then does her best to help make them become a reality.

We now enjoy driving by this part of the yard rather than worrying about how we should address its issues.

"

"The worker was prompt, courteous, efficient and professional. He dislodged quite a bit of creosote, as the chimney had not been cleaned in some years. He left the wood stove very clean and tidy. I am satisfied with the job. The only puzzlement was when I phoned to inquire about the service. I asked if there was any discount for previous Angie's List customers -- Aegis did a Big-Deal window cleaning at my home in the fall, job well done -- and was quoted the $99. However, someone in the room told the woman I was speaking with to add a $45 fee to the credit-card charge for disassembling and cleaning out the flue (or something like that) in the back of the wood stove. I questioned this and described my stove as best I could, but she did not seem familiar with the matter and the person instructing her did not come to the phone. I got her email address, took photos of the stove and sent them. [The extra charge was not made.] When the employee arrived later in the month, he checked and said mine was not a style with a closure that required that extra service. In fact, he was able to complete the job in a half-hour.
"

"Summit provided two services, the first was to paint two sections of new cedar siding that had been replaced along with trim on the front of the house. The second was refinishing of a wood deck. The painting went well as the siding was pre-primed as well as the brickmold window trim. Very little prep was required. The crew showed up and within 5 hours the work was completed. There were several areas that need to be touched up and some over spray removed from several windows but it was minor. This phase of the work went well, however the next phase of the deck refinishing didn't go as well, at first.
A different crew came out to pressure wash and clean/brighten the deck (mahogany 5/4 x 6" planks and 1" x 12 " facia boards). Several days later after the deck had dried they came back to sand and stain the deck. This is where a problem began to show itself, there were light and dark areas before the stain was applied which afterwards it looked fine but several days later, turned into yellow areas that appeared to be "bleached" out.
I contacted the company owner Daniel and he responded immediately to see what was the cause of the "yellowing". Upon inspection he told me that he had never seen this before and wanted to check with his chemical suppliers for help. He took the time to schedule 3 different deck coating representatives to get their take on what caused this to happen and as it turned out, the stain that I had been using was from a different manufacturer than the brightener they used and a chemical reaction occurred causing the change in color. (I had been using a natural clear stain which allowed the red color of the wood show)
Daniel obtained the cleaning/brightener from the same company as the stain we had used and retreated the deck, sanded and applied a new stain (this time I went with a tinted stain to help bring back the color as the deck is 18 years old). The deck turned out looking good and there were no areas of yellowing. I was very pleased with the way that this issue was addressed and will use Summit again in the future.

"

FAQs for holiday lighting add or remove projects in Rainier, OR

If climbing ladders or handling wiring isn’t in your comfort zone, hire a pro. Look for installers who post clear per-foot or hourly rates, carry insurance, and have solid reviews. Comparing at least three quotes helps you spot fair pricing without sacrificing safety. Skipping credentials to save a few dollars can cost you far more in repairs, so pick a qualified team and enjoy a safe, eye-catching display.

Yes, booking between February and September often scores lower rates because demand is light and pros have open calendars. You might even negotiate a discount package that includes removal or storage. If the budget is tight, ask whether a handyperson or an off-season permanent-light install makes sense for your home and timeline.

Determining the number of holiday lights for your house depends on your home’s size and specific decorative vision. Your project requires 10 to 20 light strands for a basic exterior display, with 100 lights allocated for eaves and an additional 10 to 20 bulbs for each awning.

For trees and substantial shrubs, allocate five to 10 strands per unit to achieve complete and balanced illumination across your property.

Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it’s a nice way to thank your installer for a job well done. Most homeowners offer 10% to 20% of the total bill or round up to an even figure if the crew exceeds expectations. A small extra goes a long way toward showing appreciation—and may help you snag priority booking next season.

Yes, you can install holiday lights yourself if your property layout is straightforward and your electrical system is secure. Homeowners who are confident in their ability to safely handle wiring and use proper equipment can save money with a DIY approach.

However, it is crucial to test all outlets thoroughly and secure the proper ladders and safety gear before starting. Careful planning and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to protect yourself and your home while achieving an attractive display.

Start by clearing the area of loose debris, damaged shingles, and anything that could trip you up. Test outdoor outlets and, if you’re unsure, bring in an electrician. Use a sturdy extension ladder (or scaffolding for very high spots) and never work alone—having a helper steady the ladder is non-negotiable. Taking these simple steps keeps you, your roof, and your new lights safe.
