I'm a carpenter by trade but a farmer at heart, I can figure out how to fix anything made with wood and I don't mind picking weeds either. I enjoy working on a variety of projects but I have supported my family as a carpenter.

"Paul arrived about an hour and a half early as he had finished early from an earlier job. He offered to come back but his early arrival was actually more convenient for me. The sprinkler system is about 3 years old but we recently moved into the house so I didn't know if the system had been winterized in previous years or what condition it was in. Paul tested the back flow valve (an annual requirement in Oregon) and checked and cleaned all the sprinkler heads. 3 of the heads were functional but didn't have the spray patterns that were the most efficient for watering the lawn and not the sidewalk and street. Paul swapped them with more efficient sprinkler heads he had in stock. Finally, he gave me a lesson on how to winterize the system in the fall and how to program the timers for automatic watering during the growing season. Paul was efficient, friendly and personable. I would recommend him to others and use him again for future landscaping needs.

"After scheduling a date and time to meet, I had someone out to my house to estimate the job. My estimate came in at $245 for the yard work and $150 for the barkdust. I scheduled the work for July 17. The day before when I called to confirm and find out what time they were coming, the office responded that they had me down for the 19. That Saturday morning, the estimator came with a crew, we went over the work to be done a second time. Then one crew member began work on yard at 9 a.m. and worked by himself until 3 p.m., when another crew member came over. The two then worked until 6 p.m. They worked hard and it was a very hot day. Because I'm an Angieslist member, the company offered me two free lawn services (mowing, edging). We didn't schedule anything, but August 9 they mowed my lawn and left a note that they would be back August 21. They came back August 30. I think the work they did was fine, but I'm going to continue to look for some whose scheduling is more reliable."

"My mother had used DRG for a back yard remodel at her house, and had noted how pleased she was with DRG's initial quality of work and responsiveness to issues that arose. From start to finish our project took a little longer than anticipated (in part due to our "change orders" and in part due to their busy schedule), but nothing exceptional.
The crew was quick and efficient, and quite conscientious, maintiaining a clean workspace. I was especially happy that despite not being ready to start on our project they went out of their way to get the loud demolition work done on our old concrete slab prior to my wife having a baby (so she wasn't at home with a newborn with all that racket going on...).
Todd clearly cares about the work they produce, and was mindful of getting things done right while also fitting them into budget. When the final invoice came, he had even given a discount because they had not needed to use as much bark as the original plan had anticipated.
Quite pleased overall, and happy to work with them again should the need arise.

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Rainier, OR

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
