"the biggest problem was the customer service rep who sold us a contract for fence repair. after 3 months and no work was done or no feedback from rep. we call main office and explain problem. the office had to order the lumber needed. within 4 days project was done. once work started it went well. the fence looks good. the customer rep we had was useless and was no help. he should find another job. bad experience with the customer rep."

"SP Fence installed my front and side fence. They quoted me a great price and, more importantly, they spent a lot of extra time making sure they got it just right, and the quality surpassed my expectations. I am picky, and this company delivers."

"Overall we were happy with the result, but disappointed with the communication. We wanted to finish the partial fence around our backyard, and gave First Fence the specs from our HOA. The estimator was behind and it took a couple weeks before he could come out. My husband waited at home for the estimator on the scheduled day, but he did not even ring the doorbell. My husband called him later in the day and he said he had already been out. My husband would have preferred to discuss the job with him in person while he was here, and was denied that ability. Also, our HOA specs required a 5' fence height, but the existing fencing was actually 6'. The estimator wrote up the quote for 5' per the HOA, and did not even mention that it would be different than the existing fencing (which was merely being continued - it would have looked horrible!). One day while we were considering the quote, I realized the fencing was actually 6'. We called the estimator, and his response was "yeah it's 6', I noticed that." He did not say anything about it to us before, nor did he note it on the estimate. Disappointing. After revising the quote to a 6' fence rather than 5' (increasing the price of course), we decided to move forward with First Fence and made the down-payment. When I asked, the rep said the installation would occur in 4 to 6 weeks. Again, disappointing since we were hoping for a quick installation. As time went on, we did not hear from First Fence at all. Finally, after 4 weeks had passed, I called First Fence and was told they had us on the schedule for a specific date about 2 weeks out on a Wednesday. We began planning for the installation, but then on the Friday before, First Fence called and told us they would install on Monday. That was less convenient and we had to reschedule other things to accommodate on such short notice. The installation of the approximately 130 feet (including 2 gates) was completed in one day. The workers were mostly professional, although one of them told my husband they did not have enough wood, despite the estimator having come out and measured. That was certainly not our fault! (We were not charged extra, but my husband was worried they were trying to blame us.) So the whole thing took a minimum of 8 weeks - 2 weeks for the estimator to come out, then we sat on the estimate for a bit and had it changed, then 6 weeks from returning the signed contract with down-payment to installation. The end result looks great - cedar shadowbox fence that encloses our backyard. I just wish they had communicated more/better. For example, the gate type/size and lock mechanism was not discussed (beyond the basic info on the quote). I wonder now if we had any other choices than what they installed for the mechanism, but it's too late. I would have also appreciated some "caring for your wood fence" guidance/pamphlets so we can protect and care for the beautiful cedar wood. For the price ($5170 before the Angie's List discount, $4653 after), I think they are a bit on the high side. Maybe they were up-quoting us because of the size of our house? But it was difficult to find a reputable fence company in our area. The fence passed local permit inspection a couple days later with no problems. We are now the envy of our neighbors who do not have finished fences. I'm just glad the installation is finally over!"

"They did project in one day and looks amazing. Our neighbors keep asking us who did our fence and gladly recommended Everlast. We had problem with closing one of the gate closing and we gave them a call and were able to come out a couple days later and fix gate and checked our other gate as well."

FAQs for wood fence repair projects in Riverside, IL

Financial responsibility depends on where the fence sits. If it’s clearly inside your lot, you foot the bill. When it’s right on the property line, state laws—California and Illinois are two examples—usually require both neighbors to split repair costs equally unless you agree otherwise. Check your local rules before scheduling work so you know exactly what you’re on the hook for.

Start by walking the fence line and noting every issue—loose boards, leaning posts, cracked panels. Next, gather at least three quotes from licensed contractors, comparing experience, warranties, and costs. Once you pick a pro, they’ll secure materials, reset posts, and fix or replace damaged sections. A thorough inspection and a qualified contractor keep the fence safe and extend its life.

Straightening a leaning fence costs an average of $200 to $400. A fencing pro will assess the damage, reset or replace the posts, and realign the panels so the fence stands upright again. Fixing the lean early on prevents further strain on framing and keeps the structure both sturdy and attractive.
