"I really enjoyed working with this company. They were very professional handled the business like they needed to did everything that I asked, and even when I made a correction, he went back and corrected it with no issues and did a great job. The whole job was amazing to the point where the next time I have something that needs to be done. I’m going to call the same company I had laminate floors put in. I had spackling on the wall. I had holes filled in the wall paint job done and he did it all and it was all amazing. Definitely highly recommend and again will use when needed again."

"Arranged sales call with Lisa. Mike came and measured then quoted me a very attractive price for ten windows and a sliding glass door. Wilson came and verified the measurements of the windows and sliding glass door. Wilson and another gentleman installed everything in a day and a half. The entire project from start to finish went very smoothly."

"I paid an excessive amount of money to replace the heating system. The sales rep gave us comfort that everything will be done right and the two experienced and fully licensed professionals will be doing the work and that there is a no-excuse warranty, 1 degree guarantee, and 10 years on both the service and hardware. It just so happened that after the install, I told the installer I smelt gas and to check everything. He simply waved it off and said it's fine, give it some time. I told AJ Perri multiple times that there is a gas leak and I asked them to rectify the situation. I called them multiple times to send someone to fix the issue immediately and urgently, but they refused to commit to any resolution and won't send anyone until the gas is turned off for the whole building. I explained that its a condo and that the unit itself in the utility closet has a separate gas shutoff valve. Knowing this, they refused to remediate the gas leak."

"Henry took my deposit on Nov 17,2020 saying the glass would take 2-3 weeks and today is Feb 3, 2021 and I cannot reach the company on the phone...I would have thought that after 10 weeks-he would have contacted me to deliver the glass. This is disheartening and unprofessional. I still believe he will make it right as I trust Henry to be a good person...but this is a disappointing situation. The work was promised before Christmas 2020 & it’s almost Valentine’s Day 2021. Sadly- Contractors forget that people work hard to hand them $700 cash and we still owe $500 more on delivery. This is hard earned Money- so I am heartbroken that I sit in my house an stare at my old window(pictured here) that I cannot see through- while Henry took my money and was careless with their obligation. $1200 for replacement glass for a window feels expensive but I was Willing to trust Rockaway Glass with this job. I’m so bummed out."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Rockaway, NJ

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
