"Between Angie’s List and local resources I got six quotes to remove a 100 yr old 70 foot Norway Maple that was disrupting foundations of our house and of the garage. Most quotes were +/- $200 (except one extreme @ $800 more!!!) End decision was less about the quotes, more about how contractors presented themselves, answered questions, explained how they were going to do the job. Edgar Dominguez owner of Fama Tree Service was first contractor to respond, assess removing the Maple. I asked about potential damage to our garage’s slate roof (what roofers call a ‘glass roof’). He explained how the limbs and trunk would be double-roped for control, then cut & lowered manually. Fama is fully licensed and insured. After he left, I later thought to get OK from my neighbor about cutting/trimming branches of his very large, beautiful Copper Beech over-hanging our driveway & house. I had all subsequent contractors quote the Maple and Beech projects separately. After interviewing/getting quotes from other contractors, I asked Edgar if he could take another look, together with my neighbor. My neighbor is extremely knowledgeable and VERY particular about the trees and landscaping on his excellently maintained property. First: All communication/responses I had with Edgar and Karen at his office were superb! That next afternoon Edgar arrived with Lalo, his foreman to meet us. Second: As a very customer friendly, highly experienced professional, Edgar listened to all my neighbor wanted done. Edgar recommended/explained best approaches - even if it meant not doing anything - to maintain health, balance and appearance for the trees my neighbor needed work on. We both agreed Edgar’s team was the best. Edgar and a double crew arrived on sched. Edgar was onsite entire time, not just ensuring everything was done safely by his team, but working hands-on as hard as everyone else, managing ropes & drops, carrying/feeding cut pieces to the chipper, quartering large hunks of trunk. As our tree removal wound down, the team progressively went over to my neighbor. Entire day was amazing: like watching an acrobatic performance, no motions wasted. The Fama crew of experts are very friendly, entirely professional. My neighbor was very pleased with all the work done on his property, as am I for the care taken removing our tree. By end of day every branch, twig, leaf and sawdust was taken away from both our properties. "The crew arrived promptly in the morning and began working, clearing shrubs and a wood pile. They were excellent in removing trees, especially those that bordered my neighbor's fence. They used ropes to ensure the tree limbs did not fall on my neighbor's property and a combination of handheld chainsaws and chainsaws mounted on extensions to reach the higher branches. They bought their own truck-mounted chipper which came in handy for disposing of the larger tree limbs. Their professional experience on tree removal was on display when it came to trimming the branches of a 30-year old tree that was over hanging on my property. It was amazing to witness how they surgically removed the over hanging branches - being careful to remove just enough to ensure the tree remained balanced and healthy. At the end of the job, the crew thoroughly cleaned the lawn removing any smaller branches."
