"Agent came out, surveyed the roof, and measured what it would take to replace. Showed current styles available and provided a price after my selection.  Agreed upon a date.  The crew came at 7:30 AM and finished about 8:05 PM  Agent said he'd do it in 1 day and he did.  Neighbor couldn't believe they did it all in 1 day, whereas most new roofs take 3 to 4 days.  Clean-up was very good and delivered on what they said they would do. <br />"

"We hired Doug for emergency ice removal from roof spring 2014; he responded much more quickly than we expected, his crew was careful, efficient, and clean.  We liked his service so much, we had him come back to do a full-house roof insulation with new vents.  He didn't solicit this work, we were just so pleased with his fast and competent service with the ice job that we decided to have him perform this long overdo job.   Price was right in the ballpark of others we contacted, and worth it. <br />"

"Excellent job from beginning to end. The quote was very reasonable. The workers arrived at 8 am and completed the entire roof replacement by 5 pm and cleaned up immaculately. The project manager was easy to contact and work with. He responded promptly to all our questions and concerns. The company was referred to us by two of our neighbors and we are delighted with Northrup's work! We would hire them again, no questions asked."

"We had bad ice dams over the winter primarily in one location. I'm sure we could have gotten the entire roof replaced but the rest of the roof was fine. The bill was exactly on estimate, the work was done on time. When we asked the owner, Kevin, to come back and do a little more caulking he did so promptly and happily. We had the work inspected and the inspection passed. The roof looks better than when we bought the house."

"Capital Construction installed roofs on my last two homes in Burnsville, MN. They are very professional, prompt and RELIABLE. Derek came out to perform my roof inspection and then met with my insurance inspector. He had gotten both homes approved easily. Derek and his team assisted me with the whole process. Both roof installations were stress free. The roofers were friendly, courteous and answered any questions I had during the installation. They came back after the initial clean up to insure there were no nails on the property. All I can say is that I will never use anyone else other than Capital Construction. I have had other roofing companies come out and they were not able to get my roof replacement approved with my insurance company. So, don't waste your time with anyone else. Call Capital Construction!"

"Hoffman Weber's Ryan Youngren was not a high pressure salesman, listening to what our ideal roofing goal was, then presenting many options coherently and providing examples of the considered options. Ryan made development of the contract smooth, covering several important points we had not thought about such as chimney flashing. The Hoffman Weber team involved in removing the old roofing were polite and efficient, daily cleaned up after themselves. During the install of the new roof, they again worked efficiently and daily cleaned up after themselves. The metal roofing they installed looks magnificent, and several neighbors have been very complimentary. Hoffman Weber's Tim has responded to many of our few concerns and questions in a timely fashion."

"It went very well. Two engineers came and looked at the outside of the house first, then the inside/basement/foundation. They educated me on how old houses settle, and what kinds of settling are of concern and what kinds are just normal and nothing to worry about. They gave me a list of things to look for and keep an eye on, but overall we were all pleasantly surprised that a 133 year old home was in such good shape. They also came up to the attic and looked at some roof concerns, and took a look at a detached garage to give me some information on whether or not a roof expansion would be possible with the current structural supports. They answered all of my questions and explained things in a way I understood; they offered information above and beyond what I thought to ask about that was useful. One thing I liked (but my realtor wasn't a fan of, tbh) was their friendly, folksy way of talking and relating to me, while at the same time offering professional opinions that were helpful to me."

"All work was done in one day. They removed the old roof and replaced with a new one, including the detached garage. We've had several heavy rains since then and I am not aware of any problems. I've found a few roofing nails and bits of old shingle that were missed during the clean up but nothing major. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Rush City, MN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
