"Shane Gates and his crew did an excellent job installing a new roof on a 2-story house. They were all very professional and friendly in spite of working during the hottest 3 days of the summer. Shane's bill was the same as his bid with no surprises and very reasonable. I would highly recommend him!"

"I needed a roof repair and inspection because we are moving. They did an excellent job with our roof inspection and repair! They were punctual, professional and clearly explained the repair and inspection. The inspection felt very thorough and Gerardo was able to do the repair right away. He even replace a broken weathervane and took down an old satellite dish for me and the roof just looks so much better! Their prices were also reasonable. I will definitely hire AEGM roofing next time we have a leak or need an inspection."

"Carl had been highly recommended to me by a friend who lives on the west side, and was one of five roofers who came to the house to give me an estimate. Carl was not only thorough in his assessment of my leaky roof, but even spent time walking down the block with me to point out and discuss various options in roofing materials and styles. (I went with the Timberline Reflector Series shingles). Carl's bid was emailed within the week and he followed it up with a call to see if I had any questions. As a couple of the previous bids I had gotten were lower, he was more than willing to do a line by line comparison with me, and to explain what each item meant and what services would be provided. I additionally went over all the bids with my cousin, who is a contractor and had recommended another roofer to me (who also gave me a bid on the job). We concluded that Carl understood exactly what needed to be done and was offering the best possible solutions for my problematic roof; not at the lowest price, but not the highest either. As it turned out, his crew had to tear off three existing roofs instead of the two we were expecting, which raised the price slightly, but Carl was upfront every step of the way about the price and what needed to happen, and they still finished the job within the 2 week time frame he had originally promised. No matter how you slice it, tearing off roofs down to the studs and installing all new plywood and shingles is a dirty, noisy, invasive job, but Carl's team worked efficiently, were very careful around the plants & shrubbery, and left the job site neat and clean each day. They also went the extra mile around the chimney and dormer windows, installing metal sheeting under the wood siding to ensure extra protection, and replacing and/or repairing any damaged boards. Carl was on the roof every day checking the work, and was always available by phone if I had any questions. He even stopped by one weekend in the middle of the job when it was starting to mist to make sure everything was properly covered, and had a couple guys from his crew come by as well. I can't recommend Carl and his team highly enough; they did an excellent job, were friendly and professional, and my roof is not only beautiful, but within days of being completed it withstood a torrential downpour without one issue. I couldn't be happier!"

"During the past few days of rain, my kitchen ceiling started leaking and Gio Roofing sent a roofer the same day. He was very knowledgeable, detailed and professional. He fixed my roof leak problem on the spot. So happy with the service! I’d definitely hire them again if needed."

"Great Way Roofing was recommended by good friends and also had a terrific rating here on Angie's List. I got estimates from 3 other companies and not only was GreatWay the most competitive but also one of only two of the 4 companies that followed up with me after estimating.. Job was a complete tearoff of 3 layers plus wood rot replacement and roof now had to be a "Cool Roof" per city code- which makes it a bit more expensive. Matt Saeger, the rep I worked with always responded promptly to my calls and emails, was patient, explained everything in detail, answered my many many questions. Schedule went as planned. Dawn in the office provided great support for paperwork and any questions regarding that. I'd advised a difficult neighbor in advance of the scope of the project. When he had an issue the first day it was addressed promptly by Matt and GreatWay and resolved quickly to the neighbor's satisfaction. All good. The roof repair work had been estimated well, and only had to add some additional wood replacement due to some additional unexpected wood rot found after tear off. I was provided pictures and details and approved the extra cost and scope of additional work before it was completed - which was a reasonable additional expense and not much over the original estimate. The Great Way roofing team of Rene, Sal, Lionel, Fernando and Tony (I think I got the names all correct!) were terrific. Everything was protected as needed (including my new attic furnace and air con units). Everything was cleaned up every day completely. Each member of the team was considerate and courteous, clean when they arrived and all wearing GreatWay shirts. The guys at my guidance even put all my patio furniture, many heavy potted plants and my garden decor all back in place. (I think they actually got a kick out of placing the plants and decor back properly!) Already had another neighbor remark at how nice the new roof looked. Very satisfied customer."

"I called roof repair specialist, on a Saturday afternoon, after we had the heavy rains in Pasadena. I was greeted by Chris and  he helped me set up a appointment for a inspector to come out and check out my leaks.  <br /> We had 3 separate leaks, one of which was unsuccessfully attempted to be repaired by another roofer in the past.  <br /> Peter came out and identified the 3 leaks right away and gave me a estimate on the spot. I decided to go with them as he really knew what he was talking about. He showed me pictures and gave me a run down of exactly what needs to be done.  <br /> A few days later there tech stopped by and completed the repairs on the roof. I was unable to be home but they assured me that was not a problem. They even sent me before and after pictures to show the work that was done.  <br /> I am completely satisfied with the work that was done. They really did everything possible to make my life just a little bit easier.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

"They came on the specified day and did the whole job unsupervised and cleaned up afterward. The only way you could tell work was done to my house was the appearance of new ridge caps. They also surveyed the rest of the roof and made some minor repairs as needed."

"They showed up on time.  They started with the flat section on my roof and the overhang porch roofs.  It took them two days to complete the job which is what I was told it would take.  They did a beautiful job and did not leave a bit of roofing or trash around the house.  I couldn't have asked for a better crew.  The owner is very personable and professional and he explained everything that would be done in the contract and verbally. <br /> Even though they started at 7 am my neighbors could not believe how quiet they were. <br />"

"recently had Sharon with Cavalier Builder complete my earthquake retrofit, electrical panel upgrade and laundry room. This is my third time working with him and I had another great experience. I’m the kind of person who likes concise and informative reviews so I would recommend Cavalier builders to anyone for three main reasons: Communication, Expertise and Flexibility. Firstly, if you have ever had any work done you know how important quick communication is. I’m a mom of a toddler and I don’t have a lot of free time. Sharon is always so quick to respond and communicates through text, which is perfect for me. Sends quick updates, videos, and in person he is very helpful. I had him come quote me and he gave his opinion on what he thought needed to be done to get my house ready to sell. Sharon even told me what he thought I didn’t need to do, not many contractors would do that. He talks you through every step and his contracts are very detailed so you know exactly what to expect. Sharon and his team have a lot of expertise and are all very professional, this is the third time working with him and everyone has always come exactly on time, been super courteous, finished the project on time and left my house as clean as it was before. Finally, one of my main reasons I continue to work with Cavalier builders is their flexibility. It is a large business but everyone acts like a family. The benefit is that you can get a job done quickly and on time but they will also take on little jobs that are hard to get other big companies to do. I had a roof leak once and contacted a large roofing company, they said they were booked four weeks out, I contacted Sharon and I had it done one week later. I had an old wall heater that was broken and I wanted to remove it. I contacted a large heating and cooling company and they said they wouldnt do it. After three jobs I even recognize faces behind masks and worked with Eddie, Felix, and Sammi a few times. This is so important to know because if you work with someone who has long term employees it says that the work is good and the results are consistent and that the contractor is someone you want to work with."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Santa Barbara, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
