"Five Star did a fantastic job with our basement remodel. Here are a few reasons that we’re happy that we chose Maurice and his team: 1. Outstanding worksmanship. Their attention-to-detail was excellent. 2. Clear, friendly communication. All questions were resolved quickly and kindly. 3. Professionalism. Maurice gave us a day-by-day schedule before construction started so that we knew what to expect every day. He estimated 16 days…. construction lasted exactly 16 days. "It is my pleasure to review DMV kitchen and bath. They did an outstanding job from conception through to the last details in finishing an extensive series of renovations - complete kitchen tear-down and renovation, master bathroom and closet teardown and renovation, two bathroom complete retiling/renovation, building two new rooms out of a very large basement, and replacing two forced air HVAC systems - they managed all aspects including proper construction permits. They did high-quality work at a very good price. They did an outstanding job with the work, with high attention to detail. Their communication was very strong from beginning to finish, their initial plan recommendations were excellent, they made several recommendations to not only make the job better, but also make it more cost effective along the way. They were reliable and consistent, and very genuine, "real" people. I have to imagine there will be very high demand for their services. I can’t recommend highly enough. Very timely, excellent communication, quick and high-quality professional work at a competitive price."

Len The Plumber, LLC. is a leading plumbing and drain company serving Central Maryland. Our certified professional plumbers are available same day to assist residential customers in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Cecil County, Harford County, and Howard County. Our knowledgeable plumbers have years of experience dealing with a wide variety of plumbing issues including plumbing repairs, drain cleaning, water heaters, well systems, heating systems, sewer, water, and gas lines. We’re open 7 days a week with no extra charge on evenings or weekends!
"I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the recent plumbing service I received from Len the Plumber. I paid nearly $300 for a technician to come out for 5 minutes, put a snake in the drain and leave.., yet it is now going on day three and the problem still has not been fixed. Two techs have been out to my home. I find this completely unacceptable. When a customer pays for professional service, they should not be left without a functioning toilet for days. I hoped for timely, effective, and professional service, and unfortunately, that has not been my experience. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as this level of service does not reflect the reputation your company advertises. I hope for a prompt resolution to this matter. Thank you. You’ll get both in S&J. As a family owned and operated business located in Howard County, MD we have been helping homeowners in all of Howard County MD, parts of Carroll County, Baltimore County and Northern Anne Arundel County Maryland and surrounding areas with their home improvement needs for over 20 years.
"S & J Painting and Remodeling came highly recommended from the Facebook group The Best of Howard County. I was also pleased at the testimonials I read online about them. I had Jerry come out for two separate estimates and was very pleased with his professionalism, confidence, and friendliness. His prices also beat several other companies we had out for the same work. We hired S & J for some drywall work (patching tape seams, holes, etc.) back in the beginning of July. Both Jerry and myself were aware that there was wallpaper underneath the paint, however Jerry was confident that his drywaller could just patch the areas without having to remove all wallpaper. He gave us an estimate for 2 days worth of work. When the drywaller came out on Monday 7/24/17, he said he would have to remove some of the wallpaper and do some other necessary work to prepare the walls. He estimated that it would take at least 4 days. I understand that estimates are just that, estimates, and should be somewhat flexible, however we were unprepared to pay twice the amount and have it take twice as long. Jerry was very accommodating regarding his misjudgement and gave us a discount on the two additional days of work. The walls looked great at this point (after the work was completed). I started to paint our foyer area (where the bulk of the drywall work was done) on Thursday 8/17/17 and noticed tons of pinholes appearing in the drywall. Some were evident before painting, however more kept appearing as I was painting. I immediately called Jerry back to see if this was normal. He told me some pinholes were normal due to moisture. I told him that this was not just a few holes, but thousands! He told me to spackle the walls, however he agreed to send someone out to look at them when I explained that a simple spackling for thousands of holes was pretty ridiculous. He also tried to tell me that the holes came from having wallpaper, however we also have holes in the ceiling (where more patches were performed by his company), and there is clearly no wallpaper on the ceilings. He repeatedly told me that the drywall guy he sent out was the best in the company with 20 plus years of experience. This was not helpful or necessary, as it made me feel like my concerns were not valid. He advised me to finish painting the foyer (we have a split foyer, so it is very tall) with one coat of paint. He proceeded to leave me two voicemails after our phone conversation, also advising me to continue to finish the one coat of paint. I rushed to get the one coat of paint done before his second drywall guy came out on Friday morning 8/18/17 to see the holes. The second drywall guy said it was a ton more holes than is normal, and when I pressed him as to why this had happened, he admitted that the compound(?) that was mixed, was not mixed properly and had too much water in it. He skim coated a lot of the holes that morning and the following day. He also patched some small holes that the first guy missed, which I didn’t even point out. He said I just need to put another first coat of paint on the places he skim coated; just touch it up. My husband asked if they could at least give us a painter for the day to repaint it for us, as “just touching it up” was impossible due to the magnitude of areas that needed to be repainted. The skim coated sections of the wall covered at least 80% of the wall, so at that point, the whole wall needed to be repainted. Also, not to mention the hours it took me to paint the high foyer walls on an 18’ ladder and the cost of two gallons of paint wasted. The second drywall guy spoke to Jerry and called me back on Monday 8/21/17, saying that if we wanted someone to repaint the walls for us (and not fully repaint, just spot roll), it would be $200 extra. I was appalled, as this work should be done for free since it could have all been prevented in the first place if (1) the drywall work was done properly, and (2) if I was not advised to paint a coat on the walls before skim coating. Not to mention the extreme inconvenience of having the work redone with drywall dust everywhere, and with a small toddler in the house. They told me at this point that painting was not their responsibility and they did not owe us anything to make up for the lost time and paint costs. When I said that I refused to pay this company any more money to fix something that was their fault, I was told that they could waive the $200. This fee should have been nonexistent in the first place! They scheduled to come out a week later, on Saturday 8/26/17 to “spot roll” the skim coated areas. I am a teacher and was hoping to have this work (and the house painted) by the end of the summer so I wouldn’t have to worry about any of it during the school year. Unfortunately, an originally estimated two day job turned into a two month nightmare. I would not recommend this company to anyone."

"The service tech came to my home and did an assessment of the issue. Found the leak in the gas line, showed me where it was leaking. He told me what needed to be to fix the leak, gave me a quote, got his tools and started working. The whole process took about 30mins or less and he was done. I checked my burners to make sure the gas was flowing properly. Everything was put back in its original place and there was nothing to clean up afterwards. Great Job. On average, modern washers last between 11 and 14 years. If you use your washing machine frequently (more than once a week), you can expect a lifespan closer to 10 years. To extend your machine's life, service it annually, promptly fix minor issues, wash at lower temperatures, use slower spin cycles, and run full loads to reduce wear and energy consumption.
If your washing machine starts making loud noises during the spin cycle, like a rumbling or grinding sound, it's a strong sign that the bearings are worn out. You might also notice excessive movement of the inner drum during spinning, rather than smooth operation. These symptoms indicate it's time to replace the bearings with the help of a professional appliance repair technician.
A water inlet valve controls how much water flows into the tub, and it helps the tub fill up with water. If the valve fails, it can let too much water into the tub, overfilling the machine and causing leaks, or it won't let enough water in, leaving clothes unwashed. The water inlet valve is an essential component of your washing machine, so be sure to schedule a repair service if it shows signs of failure.
Front-loading washers can trap water in the door seal, leading to mold and mildew, which cause a musty odor. Follow these essential steps o prevent the smell:
Leave the door open after washing your clothes.
Remove wet clothes promptly when the cycle ends.
Use the proper amount of high-efficiency (HE) detergent.
When the belt in your washing machine breaks, the tub won't spin. Signs of a broken belt include a tub that doesn't spin during the cycle or clothes that are wetter than usual after spinning. If the belt is slipping but not fully broken, you might hear a squealing sound during spinning. Belts commonly wear out over time due to stretching or tearing from the intense forces during spin cycles.
Plumbers can fix plumbing issues related to your washing machine, like clogged drain pipes or faulty water supply lines. However, for mechanical or electrical problems with the machine itself—such as issues with the motor, drum, or electrical components—it's best to hire an appliance repair technician who specializes in washing machine repairs.
