"My experience with Westshore Roofing was very positive. Our estimator, Steve, was pleasant, informative, and helpful. He stayed in touch with us throughout the project to keep us updated on next steps. The crews were polite and arrived on time. Work was finished relatively quickly - we did have a few delays due to a minor misunderstanding. However, Paul, the owner, did a great job keeping us updated on the delay and communicating next steps. Our needs and concerns were heard, taken seriously, and responded to quickly. Ultimately, although the job took a little longer than expected, I am very pleased with the work done by Westshore and their dedication to communication and customer satisfaction."

"Pricing of roof: I had four pricing quotes and they came to be the second lowest. However the delta between the highest, and the lowest was not much in any case. Thus I could go with any one of the four. Pricing of the solar: I had a several quotes including Solar City, and they were in the lowest pack (compared $/kw of the system with all the incentives). Roof Work: The quality of the work is superb. They did exactly what they promised on the quote. Solar work: Solar panels on the roof looks nice; Even though I have a relatively large system due to the pond operation, the panels are arranged well and all the wiring is hidden inside either under the panel or the roof attic through conduit. Clean up: They cleaned all the mess around the house after the work is done, which makes my wife (and in turn myself) happy. Shadowfax gave me an additional discount for doing the roof and the solar together. This is good because it helps me not only the finance side but also dealing with any potential defects once the work is done. I did not deal with two different installers for any roof related issues. The roof is tested well during this winter as we had an unusual heavy rainy season. No leak is found up to now, and the new gutters route the water the way supposed to be. The solar production is too early to say (we need at least one year to see), however, it looks like producing as promised. In the month of March, the production is slightly less than the yearly average (total system capacity/12)."

"Daddario Roofing was the third roofing company I had give me an estimate to replace the entire composite roof of 25 years.  Even though I heard some tho'ts from others that the roof had some life left in it, Daddario was the only one who said I didn't need full replacement as yet and that they could repair the damaged shingles (from heat) over the garage and then vent the garage for better air flow.  I was delighted to not have to do full replacement and spend much more money.  The original roof had  40 year composite shingles and only the garage roof had really suffered due to extreme heat in the garage itself.  I had no venting in the garage whatsoever.  <br /> Working with Steve, Edgar and their staff in the office was a pleasure.  They always got back to me in a timely manner and were pleasant to work with.  The estimate, work authorization, and payment were all done online which was new to me, but worked out well.  The roofer, Juan, was professional, punctual, and tidy.  Everything was cleaned up well when he completed the job.  I was very pleased. <br />"

"Everybody was so helpful from the office staff to the evaluator who had the utmost patience and experience. He explained everything thoroughly and helped me make the best decision for my house and budget. The job involved new 30 yr shingles and conversion of an old tar and gravel portion of the roof as well as several new skylights & new gutters + replacement of several rotten roof areas. The roofing crew and supervisor were great and job finished on schedule. They were careful w/ plants & scrubs and cleanup was excellent. Not a single problem. As a side note I had a problem w/ racoon's or possums in my attic area. I had no idea who to call so I called Scudders and they came immediately and assessed the situation and started working on it. It really wasn't a roofing issue but they repaired the side of my house and didn't charge me anything!! Who does that these days?"

"They did what they said they would do and when they said they would do it. Roof looks good and the clean up was also good. The people working on the project were professional. The only thing was communication. Needed a little more conversation over the phone to confirm arrival on first full work day. The sales rep showed up to lay down a plastic cover over a suspected leak and it held up during some very blustery rain. Over all excellent work but expensive."

"From the initial request through to the completion of the work, the entire 3 Generations Improvements team were fantastic. <br /> To give some background; after a series of storms (or rather showers) hit San Jose , it became obvious that we would have to take care of the exterior before continuing our interior renovations, water was finding it's way through the window fascias and no matter how much calking was applied, we could stop the leaks. <br /> Our property is a 2000 sq/ft townhouse, built in the early 80's and covered in shake shingles that had never been maintained. We invited 3 Generation Improvements to come in and quote us for removing all of the shake shingles and replace them with a composite material (this also included wrapping all exposed wood in an aluminum casing. Additionally, we wanted to replace two sliding doors and four downstairs windows, plus fix some roof issues. <br /> Kurt from 3 Generations Improvements came by and explained all the different products they had to offer; together with color samples for each product. For the windows we asked for quotes to match the other windows that we'd previously updated. Kurt walked through the entire house, we explained where the problem areas  were and Kurt explained what they could do to fix the problem. Once we had decided on a particular product Jeremy provided renderings of what the house could look like once the product had been applied, this was great as it meant we could visualize the finished project.  <br /> Since it's impossible to assess how much water and termite damage may lie under the shake shingles the quote was geared towards the worst possible case. This was was good because as the work progressed, it became clear that we had extensive water damage to both the front and rear balcony's. This water damage resulted in a complete rebuild of both balcony's. Even with rebuilding the balcony's the work didn't go above the original quote. The 3 Generations team put in extra hours both during the week and at the weekend to ensure the project stayed on track. We also found that the wall above the garage had started to subside, this required a new header being inserted. <br />  The 3 Generations Improvement's crew worked tirelessly from 8am through till 6pm or later. Each day the job site was left tidy and clean. The crew also took time to listen to us and where we wanted to deviate from the original plan they were happy to accommodate our requests. For example, we decided to replace the roof gutters and clad other beams in aluminum to prevent future rot. The quality of the work is excellent; we've received so many great complements on how great our house looks. We gone from the ugly house on the corner to the best house on the block :-) <br /> The project went to plan, even with all the additional work that we requested. <br /> (Note: The price reported didn't include the roof repairs as these were performed by a third party on the recommendation of 3 Generation Improvements."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Scotts Valley, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
