"It went extremely well. Old gutters were removed, new ones installed with new downspouts. They gave me a better option for keeping leaves from clogging one drain, which works very well. They did thorough cleanup."

Vertumni Fine Landscaping and Gardening is a full-service design and build landscape construction and maintenance company based in Seattle, Washington. We are fully licensed and bonded. We were featured in Seattle Magazine's Best Landscapers 2008. The Process: We typically take in some information via phone or e-mail before scheduling an appointment to meet you and evaluate your project. After an initial meeting we create a draft budget for your project and a provisional scope of work. If these are mutually agreed upon we begin the detailed design process, leading to the construction stage. Environmental Statement: Along with client satisfaction and the beauty of our gardens, our impact on the environment is perhaps our highest concern. This is most obvious in our general use of organic methods in the care of our gardens. We use organic fertilizers and pest-management methods. The Team: Bruce Bond, the principle and owner, is a West Coast native and has been a professional horticulturalist for over twenty years, fifteen of those in Seattle. We have a group of well-trained gardeners ands masons who execute our installation and maintenance projects. We believe in investment and training of our staff to insure low turnover and highly skilled crew members. Gardens are generally tended by the same people for years at a time, cultivating a relationship of trust and commitment. Testimonial: "Thanks for all the fine work you and your crew did. R and I are enjoying the installation now, but I am sure we will appreciate it even more as the plantings mature. The design was perfect for our place and everyone who has been over for a visit has noted your artistry." —D.S.

"The whole team was wonderful! We hired them in summer 2020 but they weren't available until fall 2020 (I guess everyone had the same idea to spruce up their outdoor living space during the pandemic.) We had an ugly concrete path and lawn, they removed those and leveled the area, prepped the site and did the entire installation in just about 3 days, which is what they told us it would take. The team of guys worked really fast but did an excellent job, I enjoyed seeing them choose rocks for the best fit and then cutting the edges so that it was rounded. They made the way the lawn meets the patio into a smooth slope. They didn't leave a mess during or after the work. I would 100% recommend them."

FAQs for xeriscape installation projects in Seattle, WA

Sprinkler systems aren't ideal for xeriscaped gardens because they can't effectively water around rocks and hardscape elements. Water often runs off or evaporates before reaching the soil. Instead, a drip irrigation system is a better choice, as it delivers water directly to plant roots, ensuring efficient water use and promoting healthy growth.

Your xeriscaped garden requires minimal yet essential maintenance. Regularly inspecting and adjusting your drip irrigation system, along with occasionally adding mulch and gravel, keeps your garden operating efficiently. Routine tasks—such as pruning, aerating, fertilizing, and soil testing—promote deep-root development and sustained plant health. This ensures maintenance remains low while your garden preserves its water-saving design.

While the initial cost of xeriscaping can be similar to or even higher than traditional landscaping, it often saves you money in the long run. Xeriscaping reduces water usage and requires less maintenance, lowering your ongoing costs. In drought-prone areas, these savings can make xeriscaping a more affordable and sustainable option over time.

Xeriscaping has potential disadvantages that include high initial labor and a departure from traditional lush landscapes. It demands extensive planning and careful installation, which increases upfront effort. Additionally, the less conventional appearance may not suit every homeowner’s taste and could impact curb appeal in areas where traditional greenery is valued, though its water-saving benefits remain advantageous.

Yes, xeriscaping can increase your home's value, especially in drought-prone areas. A water-efficient, low-maintenance landscape is attractive to buyers looking to save on water bills and reduce upkeep. While the exact increase in value varies, xeriscaping often enhances curb appeal and marketability to potential homebuyers when you’re selling your home.
