"I had recently moved to State College and checked out this list for landscape contractors. Landscaping companies can be notoriously "fly by night" in an industry where anyone with a pickup truck and a shovel is a "landscape contractor", so I was pleased when Alex got back to me right away.
He presented a professional quote for the work I inquired about, and delivered it to my door in writing.
I chose to proceed with most of the work and his crew came over 3 or 4 times (different crews actually) to do the work. On each occasion they showed up reliably and on time, did work that exceeded my expectations in terms of quality, and were courteous and pleasant. They cleaned up thoroughly and asked each time if we were happy with the work done before they left. On the one occasion that they did, indeed forget something, I pointed it out to them as they were leaving. Within an hour or two, another crew came by to finish up the missed item.
Everything about my interaction with this company leads me to believe that they value customer service and long-term relationships with their customers. I can happily recommend them. Do yourself a favor and hire a pro like this. You will be pleasantly surprised with how competitive his rates are, too.
"

"Overall, the work that was done the day that the crew came was done very well. They worked hard and did dig everything up that needed to go and worked amazingly quick to get the job done. The planting bed in the rear and the ever-returning day lilies were all removed and the dirt seeded/covered in hay. The front planting bed was done equally as quickly, but the plants that were planted were much smaller/immature than I expected (probably how they kept the price down). When they left everything looked very nice and we were quite satisfied.

Of course, the nice moderately cool weather with plenty of rain ended right after the work and we started with a heat snap and big dry spell. We weren't going to be around the house for a few weeks, so I hired a neighbors adolescent son to come and water the new grass/front planting bed daily. When we returned several of the plants did not survive, despite the watering. I contacted the office and they told me that they do offer a guarantee and that he would come out to look at the plants and then have them replaced.

Well, that never happened and now we will need to plant the replacement plants ourselves in the spring. Also, the fall showed us that the roots of the sand cherries were not adequately dug up and we had them sending shoots up from unpulled roots. We also noted that no weed-blocking fabric had been used, so there were plenty of weeds and grass to be pulled in the fall as well.

I did get three estimates on the work and the price from Granite was the lowest of the three. I guess you get what you pay for - while I would consider them for work in the future, I would be more specific about the weed-block and size of the plants that were being provided.

The bottom line is that the old planting bed is gone and we have grass again back there and the front planting bed with our pear tree looks TONS better than with those two sand cherry bushes, so I am satisfied generally.
"

"The owner’s name is James. He is a relatively young man and very gung ho. He is very knowledgeable. We have had a water problem in the basement. He came out and diagnosed the problem, put in a water capture system or water diversion system and we have no water in the basement any longer. He has also done some tree trimming for us. Moreover, he has done lawn leveling and reseeding. Every thing that we ask James to do, he is more than happy to do. If you have an outside project that needs done, James is the person to call. I will use his services again in the future."

"I contacted the owner Mike for an estimate to provide lawn care services at my rental property. He came out and looked at the property and provided an estimate of 75.00/service, which was reasonable for the size of my lawn (over 1 acre) and many areas needing string trimming. Mj's provided mowing and string trimming services for one full season, with absolutely no complaints. Although I was from out of town, I could completely trust that the services were being performed on-time and only when they were necessary (unlike many lawn service companies that show up even when no service was needed). Mj's provided a monthly bill by email and was very responsive any time I had a question. I would certainly recommend this company to anyone needing lawn care services."
