"We found Robert on Angie's list. He was the first contractor to respond to my calls and came out for to give us a quote within a day or two. We really liked his professionalism and personality. So when we received his quote within about 48 hours, we decided to hire him even before the next contractor came to do a quote. Robert came right on time every day. He works alone. He is organized, neat and he cleaned up at the end of each day. He is very detail oriented and he did a great job. When he hung the new cabinet doors he noticed a defect on the surface of one of the doors. I am not sure that my wife or I would have noticed it or even thought it was a problem, but Robert pointed it out to us and said it was not acceptable. He promised to replace the door and explained that it would take a few weeks because it needed to be reordered and then finished. Anyway, Robert came today and replaced the door. I highly recommend Robert."

"It was great working with Joel. He worked with us on every detail of the project. We were limited on the space which made it more changeling for him but he came through with a beautiful red oak corner entertainment cabinet"

"Shaun of Twin Cities Shelves was great to work with. I had moved into a newer home and wanted the ease of having pull-out shelving in my food pantry, corner lazy-susan cabinet (which was basically unusable) and a couple of lower shelves for pots and pans and plastic storage containers. He was prompt, reliable and significantly less expensive than another local competitor. The shelves are beautiful and I loved his work so much a few months later I decided to have him install one more set of 2 shelves in my dining room area where I stored serving pieces. Having pull-out shelves makes sure you can access and see everything that you have and need. The pantry especially allows me to make sure that I can see what food I have and organize it so that is doesn't spoil or go to waste."

"The experience with Tresa (from Tweeker Wood Renew) was excellent from the start.    Our house is 100 years old and my front door was in bad condition,  it was restored beautifully including the cracks in the door.  I also had a dining room table top that was in poor condition and leaves that didn't match,  Tresa was able to take the leaves and match them to the table - very happy with they way they look.  The biggest part of the job was refinishing the woodwork in a new additon that didn't match the the rest of the house. (including a small staircase)  Tresa was able to refinish the light oak wood work in the addition to match the mahogony wood work.  The match is better than we expected and makes the house more cohesive in appearance.    I plan on having Tweeker return to do some more work for us in the future. "

"Overall, we are very pleased with the product and installation. Our only complaint would be on what we would call "hidden costs" that came up after we had paid the required down payment of one-half of the cost of the job. When the estimator came back with his drawings, we were informed by The Cabinet Store that there were additional costs for L-shaped counters and seams, which was not communicated to us at the beginning of the process when we paid the down payment. One of these extra charges was for furring strips, which the representative explained were required for proper installation. On the day of installation, however, we observed that no furring strips were installed by the subcontractor, and he told us they were not necessary. After a quick phone call with the sales representative at The Cabinet Store while the installer was still onsite, she agreed to reimburse us for that charge, which they did."

"We love our kitchen! The cabinets have held up very well - we had the work done more than four years ago and the cabinets still look and function like new. The Omega Brand cabinets are very well made - they have soft close drawers, doors, and pullouts. They helped me design the layout and had a mock-up of what the finished kitchen would look like. The pricing was a little higher than other estimates, but the quality of cabinetry was also higher. It was well worth the money! The craftsman who installed the cabinets did a wonderful job and was very professional. I highly recommend Cabinetpak Kitchens!"

"At first we were really happy with Joel - he seemed really nice. He was initially very responsive and brought several samples for us to review. He seemed meticulous in his estimate and in his work. The cabinets looked great when he was done and we were happy! There were 2 additional panels though that he was going to order and add later. His last email said "Let me know when it's a good time to finish these 2 panels" and that is the last we have heard from him. That was 9 months ago. He has not responded to our phone calls or emails. We let that go and decided we could do without the additional panels. The bigger concern now is that the cabinets have started chipping badly. This started only 2 or 3 months after they were installed. They now look like old, chipped cabinets! We have tried repeatedly to call and email Joel but he has never responded. We are very surprised and disappointed in the quality and durability of the work and that that he has not followed up on our calls."

FAQs for cabinets refinish projects in Taylors Falls, MN

To find the best cabinet refinishing expert for your project, start by researching local pros and reading reviews from previous customers. Reach out to a few contractors to discuss your cabinets' size, condition, and the look you're aiming for. Don't hesitate to ask for references or examples of their past work. Speaking with previous clients can give you valuable insights into the pro's workmanship and reliability.

When speaking with potential cabinet refinishing pros, consider asking them several questions to gauge their experience and professionalism. These questions can help you gauge the pro's experience and determine if they align with your needs.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

  • Can you create custom finishes or colors?

  • Do you have examples or samples of your past projects?

  • Are you able to match the finish to other cabinets in my home?

  • How long will the project take from start to finish?

Regular care will help maintain the beauty of your cabinets for years to come. To keep your refinished cabinets looking their best, follow these steps:

  • Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap works well.

  • Clean carefully: Instead of spraying solutions directly onto the cabinets, apply them to a soft microfiber cloth and wipe gently.

  • Protect from heat and moisture: Try to minimize exposure to excessive heat or moisture, which can affect the finish over time.

It's usually less costly to refinish cabinets than to replace them, depending on the cabinet condition. Refinishing cabinets cost an average of $3,114 while replacing cabinets is about $5,000 or more. When deciding to refinish or replace cabinets, consider several factors, including how old your cabinets are, your budget, and whether you need to complete any other renovation projects at the same time.

It may be worth resurfacing (also known as refacing) your cabinets if they’re in good shape but you’re interested in a different look. This is often less expensive than replacing cabinets outright and can allow you to update the look of your cabinets to reflect your kitchen’s current style without having to get rid of them entirely. The cost to reface cabinets is around $4,300 to $10,000, and you can hire a local cabinet refacing pro to handle this work.

Refinishing cabinets takes about two to three days to complete. The process begins with removing cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware, followed by cleaning, stripping, and sanding the surfaces. Any chips, stains, or splits are repaired before applying paint or stain. After applying the finish, the cabinets are reassembled, and the workspace is cleaned up, leaving your cabinets refreshed and renewed.
