"The crew members (typically three, sometimes four) do not speak English. That made for some glitches along the way, with awkward communications through the owner/manager on multiple occasions. They were not fully engaged in a few of the finer details of the job. Example: I had to install new B-vent through the roof for my gas furnace and water heater. I had proper support/backing plates in my utility room ceiling on the inside. Where they came through the plane of the roof, they had a huge hole (to make it "easy", I guess) for the furnace vent, and still did not take the time to make it plumb before securing the roof jack. So it has a list...isn't that what magnetic torpedo levels are for? They left a few empty beverage containers every day, and the odd cigarette butt. They were pretty good at the magnet (nail/screw) sweeps, and left the device for us to use every day when they departed. We have two chimneys (red adobe), one of which leaked. They like to use a lot of goopy sealing compound, I am guessing because it is faster/cheaper/easier than metal flashing, but I am not sure if it is truly a long-term product. They were neat and clean with it on one chimney, but got a little carried away with it on the one that had the leak. Best advice: get up on your roof at least daily to monitor the job while underway. Pay attention to details, and work with them on getting the little things "right"."
