"Great! Office staff pleasant and prompt with information. Installers were very organized and courteous. The roof looks beautiful. Everything was cleaned up at the end of the day. Company provided addresses of previous customers for us to see colors of shingles we were considering."

"We recently had Roofing Systems of Hampton Roads (RSHR) install a large replacement skylight in our master bathroom above our jetted tub. We are very pleased with the job they did. Everything was handled professionally and efficiently. The team was on time, friendly, and did an excellent job. The new skylight looks fantastic and has made a big difference in our space. We highly recommend Roofing Systems of Hampton Roads for their great service and quality work."

"An excellent job, start to finish. Of 3 bids, Jayhawk was in the middle and the research I did on the GAF roof system, and what Jayhawk proposed was the deciding factor. A four man crew stripped the old roof to the sheeting and installed the GAF system, just as my research indicated it should be done. All landscaping was covered during demo, all trash hauled away and a thorough sweep for debris and nails made it a turn-key job. My home is a one story, four bedroom, "L" shaped, with a sunroom, and the job was done in ONE day, I was impressed. The nice touch was all roof pipes, vents were painted a matching color."

"HIGHLY satisfied with the work done and DEFINITELY RECOMMEND Dave Lobur with Princess Anne Contracting Inc. for roofing!! Not only did he diagnose the cause of the leak, he gave us several different options on how to go about fixing the issues. He helped us to find ways to cut costs but still have quality repair work done! The leaks needed immediate attention and Dave sacrificed time out of his already very booked schedule to fix our leaks before a major thunderstorm was forecasted in three days!! He is a very professional and HONEST guy! 5 stars all the way!!"

"With pleasure I would like to express my satisfaction with the installation of my new Deck of 28 feet long by 14 feet wide with two access steps. From the design that exceeds the standard, truly a solid structure. To the excellent craftsmanship of Duane and James. This two-man crew completed the removal of the old deck and complete installation of the new Deck with hand rails in record time. The level of organization, quality of workmanship and the attention to detail has resulted in a first-class product. Duane and James have my highest recommendations to anyone looking for high quality workmanship. I am very happy with a Job well done. I will definitely call Quality Built Exteriors for future projects that I may have. Best Regards, Alex Tillman"

"I Purchased a GAF Solar Shingle roof for my home, replacement skylights, gutters and downspouts. The sales rep, Jim Hester gave a thorough explanation of the products and took all the time I needed to answer my questions. The whole process from executing the purchase contract documents to arranging the financing took less than 48 hours for approval. HCR was in constant contact with me to keep me up to date on the progress details, including dates when people would be at my home to execute various stages of the project, what they would be doing and how long they expected to be there. Whenever I had additional questions, I received prompt answers. The entire process was professional, efficient and courteous."

"Excellent on all counts! I had my house cleaned years ago, but after No More Dirty Roofs cleaned my home it looked like I just had it painted. They even got the ugly stains off of the gutters, cleaned the front porch, back deck and all the windows are clean. I had black mold on my roof that had begun to grow moss. They scrubbed the roof clean! The trim on my home is cream color and I was speechless when I came home from work and saw it looking like new. The sidewalk was so thick in black mold and mildew stains I was ready to tear it up and install a new walk, but after they cleaned and pressure washed the sidewalk it was almost like new. Excellent service and professionalism with an easy way to pay over the phone. Excellent all the way through!!"

"Great job! I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for an honest, reputable company. All costs were reviewed beforehand. Timeline was updated throughout so no surprises. It was initially delayed due to the job before us being more extensive than originally thought but that was communicated clearly. Roof looks amazing!"

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Virginia Beach, VA

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
