"In 2020 and 2021, our asphalt-shingled roof leaked and we had it repaired. The repairer said that our roof should have been first covered with ½” plywood before the shingles had been attached. That’s why the shingles were failing after only 17 years. After the second leak, we decided that we did not want to risk another repair cycle. But who should we hire ? We thought about getting “the best price,” but that’s how we got our last roofer. This time we relied on an established company, Community Roofing and Restoration. We had seen the company install roofs all around the East Side and, in fact, the founder, Jim Godsil had helped install sky lights on our roof back in 1980. Also, the company was highly rated by many homeowners at Angi. So in December, 2021 we called Community Roofing and Restoration to replace our roofs (now the house and garage) in the spring. We also had the gutters replaced and two skylights installed. All went very well. There were a few minor problems regarding small details but the company was quick to oblige. Indeed, the roofing and gutter crews were quite skilled and their teamwork was impressive. Also, everyone was courteous and helpful. Since the work was completed, we have had a number of rainstorms and the roof is working well. Thank you Community Roofing and Restoration—Josh Fraundorf owner!"

"It took awhile to write this review. Take that as a good thing. I am totally satisfied with the work done to our home by Integrity. They did an outstanding job putting on a new roof, gutters and rebuilding our chimney. The mason was meticulous and this shows as an outstanding job. The roofers were efficient, answered my questions and left me with what I believe is my best roof. Ever. The gutter installer stayed and worked in the rain, at times pouring rain, saving us from the real possibility of too much water running down the side of the house and running down the valleys. Everyone was polite and responsible. Work proceeded quickly, efficiently and the cleanup was complete. Beyond my expectations. No trace that they were ever here. The owner visited the job site to check on how the work was going and to check if we had any questions or problems as the work proceeded as well as the day after all the work was completed. And the bonus, frosting on the cake if you will, something lacking way too often today: Open, honest and prompt communication. I would not hesitate to call them again on another home project."

"I can't say enough good things about Nate and his professional crew at Twin Pines. Our project was big. Very large steep roof. Nate gave us estimates for replacement cedar shake, manufactured (composite) slate and shake. We chose the manufactured slate and couldn't be happier with the end result. His crew (and project manager Mitch) was efficient, professional and communicated frequently about what was being done. We also had all of our gutters replaced and gutter guards put on. That too went well. Everything was on time and budget and clean up was impeccable. My husband and I highly recommend Twin Pines."

"Dale installed our roof back in 2002 and we were happy with the quality craftsmanship and price. Fast forward to 2021, we encountered a ice **** leak. I texted Dale at 5am and he got back to me in less than an hour later. After discussing the problem I was having, Dale assured me he would be out to take a look and being the man of his word he was. Dale found the problem and took care of it. When the time comes for a new roof I know Dale and his team will be the only one I call."

"Reimer did our roof in 2016. In 2020 we needed a repair and they were fantastic to work with. A lot of companies can do the initial work but I'm glad I went with Reimer because of their commitment to customer satisfaction after the initial job was complete. Would definitely use again and recommend to anyone looking for a roofer."

"It was a pleasure working with G and K Roofing. G and K's owner provided detailed explanations before the work and carefully monitored the work progression. The crew was very conscientious and friendly. Replacing a roof is not something one does very often and can be daunting but the G and K's owner was supportive and made the process go smoothly, addressing any hiccups or concerns as the work progressed. The scheduling was perfect for my needs and all work was completed on time. The new roof looks great!"

"WHAT A GREAT JOB! - The guys showed up early & stayed late, did a complete tear down, replaced any bad wood on the roof - put down a nice layer of edging to protect from snow & ice - strengthen my gutters with extra straps (did not even ask for that) & they did a great job of waterproofing & sealing up my chimney with a new flashing - they were very helpful with any info & even worked through a small sprinkle of rain - I was very impressed - I would recommend them to anyone - very professional & I was extremely satisfied with the end result"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in West Allis, WI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
