"The inspector Evan was very professional. He took his time to check all areas of the home including a drone viewing of the roof and exterior. Great job and will hire again in the future if needed."

"From start to finish Customer Home was fantastic. They were very responsive and quick to come for an estimate. Bill, the sales person was straightforward and didn’t try to push upgrades. Communications were open throughout, from reminders before install and the entire day of install. The site manager was helpful and friendly, they even made sure the majority of the debris were picked up. I did find almost a dozen nails in my driveway but attributed this to not being able to clean under the dumpster. I had estimates by other companies that was almost double the price. The materials used were quality and not just pulled from a box store. They also have a great warranty. I only wish they did more than just external improvements. They would be my top choice of business to work in the future."

"I’ll start by saying I wouldn’t recommend this company at all. I’m in the military so my time is limited. I initially contacted this company around March/April 2021 for leaks I was experiencing with my roof. I was quoted $3k to remove an attic vent on the second level attic that was causing leaks and to repair leaks in the attic of the first level of my home. They removed the second level attic vent and repaired that leak. The problem began with first level attic. They removed the vinyl siding along the roof line and sealed it. So I thought the problem was solved. A couple of weeks later, it rained so I checked to see if there were any leaks. There was still a leak dripping in the same spot but this time there was multiple leaks. I contacted the employee (who will remain nameless) that I was still experiencing leaks. He came out and told me in order to identify the leak, he will need to perform a $450 water test. I paid them $3k already but okay. He preformed the water test and said the leaks was coming from a second level window installed incorrectly. He said the company HE WORKS FOR would charge me another $1500 for the work. But he would just do it on the side for me $250. I thought it was sketchy that an employee who works for the company would use the company resources as a side hustle but at that point, I just wanted it fixed. So I paid said employee, he sealed the window. I THOUGHT problem solved. I’m in the Navy so I’m not home often. A couple of weeks later it rained again, same leaks but this time it’s progressed more. I called “employee” and he said he’ll send one of his guys out to check out what’s going on. His side guy never came so I had to call him again. When he finally came, they drilled a metal sheet above the window and let it sit there until it rained again to see if in fact, that’s where the leak was coming from. It rained again but it wasn’t leaking as much this time so the same “employee” came out, removed the metal sheet that sat above my window for a couple weeks and sealed the window again. It rained again, and the same leaks appeared but this time on both ends of the lining of the attic. So instead of calling the “employee”, I called the company. I explained to them that their employee came out a couple times to try and fix the leaks but it’s still leaking. Now this is where it becomes a mess, the company never knew the employee was coming out to my home on company time, so they made their employee refund me for the amount they charged me on the side. They apologized and offered to send someone else out this time. The new employee who was kind, reviewed all the work that was done prior and said now he recommended that flashing is to be installed under the siding of the house. Why wasn’t that recommended to begin with?!?! This new employee said he would get back with me in two days with the amount for the new quote. After everything I went through, I still considered this company business. After two days went by, no phone call. So a couple days later I called the company and asked for the new quote for ADDITIONAL work I was quoted for that I never got. The receptionist said they have to contact another company before they could give me an accurate quote. This company NEVER called me back at all. So I’m assuming they just washed their hands of the poor, costly work that was performed. Of course, I called another company who said The Roofing Company overcharged me, and quoted me for a lesser price than they quoted me. Unless you want to go through what I experienced with this backwards, unprofessional, non-reliable and expensive company, I wouldn’t recommend you using them."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Yorktown, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
