"The service I got from Bob's Complete Construction, Inc. turned out very well. I actually called, because I had a large ceiling fan in my kitchen. I just purchased a new home and the ceiling fan was large and in an odd place. It was a big, clunky fan. I didn't really want that. Instead, what I wanted was a nice chandelier that was centered over my dining room table. I wanted someone who could go into the ceiling and change where it came out. Remove the fan and run a line and change where it came out, so that a chandelier could be hung. I had some other odd jobs too, because I just bought this house and it needed some other little things done. He brought a couple of other men along. He did that and also, I had a pediment for my front door, which is sort of a fancy, scroll-type thing that goes over the door. He was there working on the ceiling and stuff for the chandelier, and he said, "Well, I could paint it for you, but it would save you money if you paint it yourself. I'll get all the prep work done and I'll come the next time and hang it." So, I painted it while he was doing the chandelier. Then, he had a couple of other guys with me and they noticed my house does not have gutters. I said, "Yeah, I was going to look at that." And the one guy says, "Well, we do gutters." I said, "Great." So he gave me a quote that day and I gave him the down payment for the materials and he came two days and in one day, had my gutters installed, with a gutter shield. So, I got new gutters on my house. The light fixture, it took them one day where they had to do this fiddling around with the wiring. Then they actually hung the light fixture, and then, they sort of did like a temporary mudding. Well, that has to dry before they do the new plaster over it. He came a couple of days later and put plaster over it. It looks like nothing was ever there. There was a little piece of siding that was sort of coming loose, up by the roof and when the gutter guy fixed the gutters, he fixed that to and put the pediment back up for me. Then I showed them another spot where - I sort of got a surprise when the old owners left the house because they had a little rug around the toilet, which I just thought was a decorative thing. When they left, they took the little rug away and I found out why it was there. The tile is hacked away, all around the toilet. I don't know why, somebody told me that sometimes, when people put in new tile, they don't know how to make it come up against the toilet, so they just hack it away. Anyway, it was about three or four inches away from the toilet, all hacked away. He said he thinks that he can get me a match to that tile. That may be something I do with him later. It looks he did a nice job and the price was reasonable. I had originally heard about him, because when I was looking on Angie's List, he had advertised that if you pay so much, I think it was $160.00-something, you buy like three hours of work. I thought I've got of little things, so that would be good. So I did that. Originally, he came for that three hours of work. My chandelier was my main thing I wanted done. Then, when he was here, that was when he noticed his gutter thing and one of his guys was a gutter guy. So, we did that too. I thought his prices were very reasonable. I'll be calling him back for some more work. We had a little trouble with our contact at first. I don't think it was totally Bob's fault. My life was very crazy, because I was moving out of my old house and I was going to temporarily keep my stuff in a POD, live somewhere else and then move into this house. So I didn't have access to this house yet, so no one could come in here and measure and everything. But I knew what was going to have to be done. I really wanted someone to come and look, when I was still in my own house, because I also want to build a fireplace and I wanted to look at what my old fireplace looked like, because I wanted something similar. I had originally thought maybe Bob would do that, too. So when I hired for the three hour thing, I got one of Bob's associates. He made an appointment with me. I told him I wanted him to come to my present house because I wanted him to see that fireplace. I was only going to be in my house for another week. Then I had to move out and then I had some time before I was in this house. He said that Bob was out of town, but that he could come. He made an appointment with me for the next day. I waited and I waited and he didn't come. Over an hour went by and he still wasn't there. So I called and he said, "I had an emergency at my rental property, so I couldn't come." But he never called or anything. He just didn't come. I said, "Boy, I really wanted you to come and see this, before I have to move out." He said, "I can't do anymore this week, but Bob is going to be back in town next week, so you can talk to him." So, then, I called the following week and got ahold of Bob. When I talked to Bob, it was too late to see my old house. So, then, I made an appointment with Bob and he apologized for him. He said, "That's just a helper of mine." He made an appointment with me to come, when I was in my new house and he did. I couldn't give an "A" for responsiveness, but it wasn't really Bob's fault, either. I guess you're somewhat responsible for your associates, but he was out of town. I did have a little bit of crossed signals with Bob, too, when we was going to come out and do the work. My understanding was that he was going to come on Monday. We had talked about days that week. I told him on Fridays, I watch my granddaughters, so I can't do that day. Evidently, he came on Friday and left something on my porch saying, "Well I came to do the work and nobody was here." That was the day I said I couldn't do it. So, I think we had crossed signals about getting together. Once he came, he did a great job and I was very happy with it. Some of it was probably his fault, but maybe he didn't listen carefully. I was getting a little worried at first, because he had my money already. But he was out of town and his helper just wasn't as conscientious as he is."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Allegan, MI

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
