"I met with Vince in the late summer to discuss a project that I wanted done prior to the fall. I wanted a retaining wall, some brick-paver patios, and a brick staircase done for my landscaping project. Additionally, I'd need some dirt brought in and moved around. We discussed timing, and pricing. They were competitively priced, and I could tell that they were the type of people that I wanted to work with. They were very busy that summer, but they kept me informed as to when they would be able to get to my project. Rain delayed the project longer than I would have liked - but I'm sure that's the case for all landscapers. They put in extra hours on Saturdays once the weather cooperated. After they thought the job was done, we discussed to ensure it met my needs. I had some specific things that I wanted done (size of the wall, etc.), and they kept coming back until I was satisfied. They did everything in their power to make me happy. They said they'd never had an unsatisfied customer, and that streak continues. They made sure I was happy, and went the extra mile to ensure it. Feel confident in giving them a call. Make sure they know your expectations, and they'll get the job done (and keep on working until you are happy)."

"I've never seen it not happen - contract a repair or upgrade job and during the preparation stage of removing the old stuff, unknown problems crop up that require a change in what needs to be done to accomplish the repair or upgrade. Sure enough, additional old concrete had to be removed to get the job done right. SPECK showed me the problem immediately when they found it and their solution was more than fair to my pocketbook and satisfaction. VERY GOOD working with this company as contractors and as well as WONDERFUL work crew on site. Love these people."

"We really appreciated Jesse's input and ideas on how to make the deck more useful once the patio was installed. While we didn't end up using Jesse's services because we did not expand the deck, we greatly appreciated his valuable input and his eye for future growth. He didn't try to sell us on an expansion because he knew that it would't increase our use of the deck. He was very honest with us and we know that he can be trusted to give an honest review of what work needs to be done."

"It?s a good group. I?m familiar with them outside of work that I have done with them and I know the owner of the company, he?s a great guy and they do good work. They are a little bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. There was no charge for the quote."

"Great! The designer helped me hand-select the specimens, and the crew worked hard to complete installation of the first phase by my deadline (prior to my son?s wedding.) I had questions about care which were answered promptly. One change was made at my request, and all interactions showed excellent listening and design skills, genuine kindness, and true professionalism. <br />"

"Excellent!  They worked outside in severe hot & humid weather.  Nice people but all business.  Restored & repaired my basement foundation to look like new.  Fair & honest in his estimate & pricing.  Very punctual, hard working, professional, informative, beautiful work!  Had absolutely no problems.  Have hired him to repair. restore, & waterproof my basement.  Would like him to do brickwork on patio & sidewalk come summer.  This guy is great!"

FAQs for interlocking pavers for patios, walks & steps installation projects in Ames, IA

To calculate your paver needs:

  • Determine how many pavers cover a square foot.

  • Determine how many square feet you need.

  • Add an additional 10% to 20% for breakage and waste.

  • Consider your pavers’ sizes.

Or, you can hire a local pro who you know will get the right measurements the first time. This way, you get your weekend back instead of spending it measuring square footage.

A pallet of pavers costs $300 to $700 on average, and each pallet covers 56 square feet. The exact price depends on the type, size, and quantity of pavers you choose. Buying in bulk can sometimes offer additional savings, especially for larger projects. Ask your pro how you can save on material costs.

To get the best prices on pavers:

  • Hire a professional landscaper: Pros often receive discounts on materials, which can make hiring them more cost-effective overall.

  • Shop at local building supply stores: Check for overstock or bulk purchase deals. Bulk purchasing can be more costly up front but save you money in the long run.

  • Buy directly from manufacturers: Purchasing from a local brickyard or paver factory can offer competitive prices, especially for large quantities.

The main difference between driveway pavers and patio pavers is their load-bearing capacity. Driveway pavers are designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, whereas patio pavers aren’t suitable for such heavy loads. You can use driveway pavers for a patio, but using patio pavers for a driveway could lead to damage. Always check the weight limits of pavers and consult with a professional installer to choose the right type for your project.

Paver patios cost more than concrete patios because the materials and installation methods require advanced techniques and skilled labor. They deliver enhanced aesthetic appeal and allow for easier small‑scale repairs without affecting property taxes. The higher expense arises from premium paver materials and intricate installation processes that deliver long‑lasting durability and design flexibility. This robust solution provides notable benefits over concrete alternatives, making it a valuable investment for homeowners.
