"Overall, we were very pleased with the work by SavATree - Springfield. The estimator, Duane Richardson (who is also the Branch Manager), came when scheduled, is a Certified Arborist, and worked with me to pin down on paper the specifics of the work needed on 10 mature trees. He noticed one of the trees was diseased and recommended trying to save it, but also said it might not survive. After reading about the condition, we opted to remove it. The tree crew did a great job with extensive maintenance pruning and the cleanup, and also installed a cable in one tree to strengthen it. Unfortunately, in taking down the diseased tree, the falling trunk hit a holly tree branch and then broke off about a third of a small mountain laurel bush. The crew did not seem to notice and did not say anything to me when I came out and looked over the damage. When I brought this to Duane's attention afterwards, he sent out his operations manager, who apologized profusely. He wrapped the broken holly branch with tape, tied it up with rope for support, and said he could come back again if the tape and ropes don't hold up. I appreciate his help and will hope for the best. Duane also recommended fertilizing the trees, which we had never done before and thought would be helpful. The application was scheduled the week before the pruning, and the worker did not show. The office rescheduled it for two days later, and he did come. He applied their ArborHealth and ArborKelp treatments, and we will see what the results are next year. As for price, the tree pruning and removal cost was in line with the estimate from another company that recommended slightly less work. I did not get any other estimates for tree fertilization, so I can't compare."

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in Manassas, VA

A tree doctor or tree surgeon is another term for an arborist. The term is more common in places like the United Kingdom. They are professionals trained to plant, care for, maintain, diagnose, and remove trees of all kinds. Tree doctors have specialized knowledge to ensure the health and safety of trees.

Arborists are tree care specialists who plan, maintain, and enhance the health of trees with expert precision. They prune, diagnose diseases, treat pest infestations, remove hazardous limbs, and manage debris cleanup while developing comprehensive landscaping plans. They also handle tree planting and work with landscape professionals to ensure long-term tree vitality and safety.

Consulting arborists are tree experts who can advise homeowners and business owners on the right trees to plant, how to care for existing trees, and what to do about trees that appear to be sick or pose a safety threat. A consulting arborist may work with local landscape architects, investment property owners, city governments, developers, and other arborists.

An arborist may be able to save a dying tree. If you notice that your tree suddenly appears to be sick or is exhibiting unusual behavior, contact an arborist immediately. They will thoroughly inspect the tree to determine what might be wrong with it—and will let you know if it’s possible to save the tree and how to do it.

Verifying an arborist’s credentials is crucial for reliable tree care. Arborists must be licensed by their state and hold certifications from reputable organizations such as the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Request proof of licensing and certification, and review local recommendations to ensure you are hiring a professional who meets high industry standards and adheres to strict safety protocols.
