"This was our third job with Dollman Construction. They did a full kitchen renovation for us last year. <br /> Our two new bathrooms are big steps up in both form and function. Jimmy Dollman worked with and improved on our design ideas and saw a great solution to make our master bath requirements work. By pushing back a knee wall and expanding a dormer by less than 30 sq feet, our new master bath feels twice as big. The addition of a transom window (with a mountain view) gives the room an open, warmer feel. Our house is 90 years old and in a historic district, so we were worried about getting approval for the part of the work that altered the exterior of our home. However, the job was approved without a hitch - Dollman understood the process, the requirements and was thorough. <br /> As in the past, both Dollman employees and subcontractors were professional and we were comfortable with everyone who came in and out of our home. The Dollman employees who did the demolitions and the exterior construction were especially hard working and conscientious. The project manager, Bradley, was good with creatively handling the kinds of challenges you run into with older homes. He also found and corrected a pre-existing issues with a drain vent that could easily have gone unnoticed and uncorrected.  <br /> I assigned a "B" on punctuality because "B+" is not available. There was more down time during the first half of the job than we expected, partly, I'm sure, because managing subcontractors is often like herding cats. But to be fair, if we weren't living in the house during the work, we probably wouldn't have noticed, and it's not likely that any other general contractor in the area could have done better. <br /> We're not planning any more renovations any time soon; twice in two years takes some recovery time! But we'd certainly use Dollman Construction again."

"Mr. Jackson was chosen for the roof repair based on his good reviews and his estimate, which was below another company's for the same materials. The roof was done well. He communicated very well; kept us informed about scheduling, shipment delays. It was finished on schedule and on budget. We had some minor issues which he responded to and resolved. We also received a written estimate from Mr. Jackson for some interior painting and minor remodeling that I will now address. One item on the list of things that needed to be done was a "leftover" from a previous kitchen remodel in 2011. We had beadboard installed on part of the walls; the pantry surround, and an 8' straight wall. Several sections of the beadboard had shrunk; it needed caulking and repainting (we had the paint). I counted. There were 5 full length floor to ceiling seams, and 6 partial seams, due to doorways and built-ins. Mr. Jackson's estimate to caulk and paint these seams was $1400.00!!!. I was flabbergasted and asked him over the phone if this didn't have too many zeros in it?! I truly thought it MUST be a typo! He said that NO, it was not a typo. I laughed at him. I told him that this was a ridiculous price for the amount of work that this would entail. He then offered to drop the price to $800.00. I told him that IF we hired him for this job, we would be leaving this out. He wanted $1550.00 to hang 2 shoe racks (which I already had) and paint the inside of 2 small standard closets. He verbally dropped that price to $900.00. We hired another contractor, also through AngiesList with excellent reviews, and turns out we had known him for years and he built our deck when he was our neighbor. He caulked the beadboard seams in under an hour. The next day, his painter painted them in about the same amount of time. In conclusion, we were happy with our roof, but I would caution anyone considering Jackson&Jackson for a type of job like we had to pay strict attention to line item pricing. There could be some shocks in there."

"Matthew and his helper came when they said they would. He took down the broken sections of fence (approximately 40 to 50 feet long by 8 feet tall), dug out the 6 broken 4x4 posts, installed new posts in concrete and reinstalled the sections of fence in concrete. <br /> He cleaned the area up and if it weren't for the repaired fence you wouldn't know he had been here. <br /> I was more than pleased with the finished project. <br /> He was very courteous and obviously knew what he was doing. <br /> I will definitely call Neighbors Construction for any work I need done in the future. <br />"

"We moved from Florida, into a renovated house in Roanoke Virginia, after an exhaustive search. The house, although beautifully renovated, left a few areas that really needed attention. Our basement was half-finished, providing us with a family room, including a wet bar. But the other side of the basement, which herein shall be called "the dungeon" was a dark, raw, fully exposed area. There was a washer/dryer hookup, but that was all. My wife hated it. Exposed wood, cement floor... cavernous. We hired Martin Services, here in Roanoke, VA, to do the renovation. Dan Martin gave us a very fair bid on the project, and we accepted. We described what we wanted: - frame out an area approximately 12x12, into a laundry room, with 4 walls, and a door into the remaining storage area. - all of the pipes, dryer exhaust, and heating ducts to be enclosed. - a drop ceiling put in with new LED lighting. - ceramic tile installed. - three cabinets installed, with an L-Shaped counter top. - a sink in the counter-top, with a detachable hand sprayer. All of this, plus the electrical work, plumbing, painting and finishing. Dan and his crew were courteous, always on time (and a lot of this was over the Christmas holidays), and very expert in their work. Dan made sure we were happy with every phase of the project, always communicating with us. Everything was completed to our extreme satisfaction. The room is no longer a dungeon. In fact, my wife looks for laundry to do, just to hang out in the room. I would hire Martin Services for any project, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a competent, fair, professional and very friendly contractor."

"Decorative Concrete of Virginia did a fantastic job. They started with a dirty, stained 26 year old basement floor and turned it into a beautiful place for a workshop. They guys were extremely professional and friendly. I really cannot say enough what a great job they did. It brightened the basement and made the floor very comfortable to walk on, even barefoot. These guys definitely get a 5 star rating all the way around."

You answered all our phone calls, all of our questions, and talked with us throughout the entire process. We felt extremely confident and assured through the entire lift. This house is our dream house and we are going to live in it until we die, and you knew how much it meant to us, and you took care of it as if it were your own. <br /> As you know, my wife ended up in the hospital with some complications with her surgery while you were working on our home, and you took such great care of our house. You knew she was very disappointed that she could not be there, as she designed the foundation window placements and had a big part in the doors and steps. Your crew was so kind and so professional and meticulous, that they knew that two particular windows were very important to my wife.  Your crew wanted to get them perfect and asked me some questions about them, that I could not answer. My wife was feeling better, but still in the hospital, and I called her on the phone, while your crew waited for me, as she and I discussed for several minutes the exact placement of the windows. Some minor changes had to be made and your crew could have easily just slapped the two windows in the new location, which was only slightly off of the original plan, and be done with it, but they stopped and pointed out where my wife originally wanted them and the new location difference and wanted to be sure that my wife understood the change, and wanted me to talk to my wife first. I was so very impressed that they made the adjustments on the spot that my wife suggested over the phone. I don’t think any other company would have gone through this much trouble to please their customers! <br /> You also were very respectful of our property, neighbors, and your crew were always very willing to stop and explain the process of what was going to happen next. Not one time did we ever feel like we were in your way. Actually, it was the opposite, we felt like you and your crew were very excited to show us your equipment and how it worked and actually wanted us around so we could see how it all worked and so we could see for ourselves how everything was perfect - and it was! <br /> We will always remember you and think of you so highly. Thank you for making the beginning our home building so easy and off to such a perfect start. There are so many things that can go wrong when redoing a home, and having it go off with such a perfect start gives us such great hope. You have certainly set bar very high for the other contractors that will be coming in for the other parts of the home! Your company and its crew should be very proud of its work. You do a job that is very difficult, complex and tedious, but you do it with care, expertise, and perfection. We actually miss you guys and wish you were around. You are like family to us.
