"Absolutely loved working with this crew start to finish - they did a complete overhaul of our landscaring (beds, plants, etc.), built us a 6 foot privacy fence around our backyard, and installed a new bed with a Limestone wall at the corner of our yard - plus fixed our back porch (brick) steps, trimmed our trees, and more. Very reasonably priced and nice to work with - super considerate, went the extra mile."

"My yard was overgrown, and I had trees down. Let's just say my yard was a complete mess, and I cant move around to get it done on my own. I hired Matt and Alex to come and mow my lawn that was overgrown and to cut trees that had fallen from previous storms. Let me tell you they did a fabulous job. From ths time that they arrived till they left they worked hard and my yard looks incredible. Another plus is they are incredibly friendly and care about what they do and it shows in their work. Their prices are reasonable and for the effort they put into their work they should charge more. In my opinion I'd say this is a passion for Matt and Alex and it shows. I would recommend them to anyone."

"Jose knows what he is doing. We had 4 beetle kill mature pine trees in our backyard. It was like watching an artist study the trees and take them down so fast and safe. He knows his craft."

"My experience with Outdoor Identity was excellent. Matt and Alex are truly great people with extraordinary work ethics. They are perfectionists and pay attention to every detail. They refuse to take payment or call a job "complete" until the customer's expectations have been exceeded. They were very reasonable with pricing and were incredibly timely and kept to their proposed schedule. I was utterly blown away with how much they did, in such a small amount of time, and with such high quality. I highly recommend Outdoor Identity!"

"I Hired Barnes to come out to my home in Shelbyville to remove some trees that were either dead or damaged and in danger of falling on the house/barn. The reprehensive was here in a timely fashion to give us an estimate. There prices are fantastic! and the personnel are wonderful to work with. The project was completed and finished well. I could not be happier. I would recommend you hire this group. The value of the services they provide is well worth the money they charge and they are have the best price of all the landscaping/tree removal companies I called. Can't loose with them!"

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in Winchester, KY

The optimal transplanting season depends on your tree species, but most trees respond best when moved during dormancy. For deciduous trees, late fall after leaf drop or early spring before bud break provides the lowest stress periods. Evergreens transplant better in early fall or late summer when soil temperatures remain warm enough for some root growth. Avoiding transplanting during active growth periods helps trees direct energy toward establishing new roots rather than supporting foliage.

While technically, trees of any size can be transplanted with the right equipment and expertise, practical considerations limit what's reasonable for most homeowners. Trees with trunk diameters under 15 inches are most commonly transplanted in residential settings. Success rates decline as trees increase in size and age, with specimens over 24 inches in diameter presenting significant challenges and costs. For large trees, carefully weigh the substantial investment against the potential benefits and survival probability.

Most transplanted trees require one to two years to fully establish in their new location, with larger specimens often needing additional time. During this establishment period, the tree regenerates roots that were inevitably lost during the move. Signs of successful establishment include normal seasonal growth patterns, healthy leaf development, and reduced dependence on supplemental watering. The quality of aftercare during this critical period significantly influences long-term survival rates.

Self-transplanting is feasible for small trees with trunk diameters under two to three inches if you have proper tools and follow correct techniques. However, medium to large trees require professional expertise and specialized equipment to ensure tree survival and property protection. While professional services cost more initially, they achieve much higher success rates and prevent potential damage to your property or the tree itself. The investment in professional services often proves worthwhile when considering the value of mature trees.
