"I have a house with circa 1890's brick and mortar that once had seashells in it. David Ricard gave me a fair estimate to fill in mortar where a house brick was party broken by a telecom company and where some mortar fell out from an area a larger masonry company had repointed a few years before. David and his brother showed up on time, did the work in a reasonable amount of time, and cleaned up after. He showed that he understands different kinds of brick and the mortar required. I wish I had known about David before I hired that other company a few years before because the larger company didn't do a particularly good repointing job. I have upcoming mortar work needed on my front walkway and will be calling David for that repair. I would definitely hire him again and recommend him to others."

"Mottern did a fantastic job designing and installing a large flagstone-on-concrete patio for us. The work included excavating and leveling the site, pouring and re-enforcing the slab, and selecting and purchasing the stone, brick and other materials. In addition to the patio, Mottern also filled in an approx. 12 sq/ft section of brick wall where a door had been converted to a window. The filled-in brick and mortar matches the original 50-year old wall perfectly. Overall, the entire Mottern crew was prompt, responsive, professional, and very skillful. We would definitely use Mottern again."

Bill suggested to avoid deterioration in the future. He gave me a quote and said they would come in a month when the grout was cured. I also needed one stone fixed that my husband had broken. After dozens of calls and emails to Custom Masonry, I never got a returned call or email. 
Bill spoke of their guarantee for a year, but I don't think that would hold up either since they stay out of contact.
If they are still in business, I assume they don't want a small left over job. This was disappointing after such good service and I will need to hire another company for the follow up.

"The repointing work was generally done well. Old mortar and bricks were removed and new bricks were installed. The craftsmanship was excellent. However, the color of the mortar used differed from that in the rest of the brickwork, so at present it stands out. Sixpenny said to wait a period and then re-evaluate whether any change should be made. I would rate this as an "A" but for the color difference in the mortar that was not expected. The chimney cap work was done well."

"Alex and his crew are truly skilled, detailed, dedicated, and hardworking brick and stone masons. They arrived early and worked late even on days with 105 degree temperatures. They were always in good spirits and eager to explain each step in the construction process. I can sincerely say the construction was of the highest quality and the final outcome was a work of art. They removed and rebuilt a deteriated brick front porch, brick steps, and a 12 foot flagstone walkway to the driveway, and built a large backyard flagstone patio and a connecting 15 foot flagstone walkway. "We have nothing but great things to say about our experience working with this company. The project was well run. The workers were very diligent and cleaned up every evening before they left. There was a point in which the workers were going to lay pavers according to the drawings and clearly it was not going to look good so they stopped and immediately had their supervisor contact us and gave us recommendations. We also planned to reuse material from an existing retaining wall to rebuild the wall. The shape and height required us to need more stone. Mike went above and beyond to help us locate the stone that had been discontinued. They were always extremely responsive. If they were not able to answer the phone we always received a return call promptly. The pavers are beautiful, the wall ties in nicely to our pool, the fireplace is the favorite gathering place, the mulch, grading, topsoil and seeding has created a very welcoming backyard. They were very accommodating to changes. We had a stacked stone border around an existing flower bed that was up against the brand new pavers and it did not look right. They let us change the plans and incorporated a stone border for the bed which is just beautiful. What was a space that was never used has now become our oasis."
