"My kitchen looks great. The counter tops needed replacing, the cabinets were fading and coming off the walls in several places, I needed new appliances, and the walls and cabinets needed new paint and backsplash. Ryan’s remodeling took care of it all, and it looks as good as new! The guy was punctual, knowledgeable, and got it done in a weekend. I would definitely use them again for any other projects I have."

"I am extremely pleased that I found Martin Remodeling. The owner Ausrin explained in detail how he would install a vinyl privacy fence with a gate for me and how long it would take. I also found his estimate for the job to be very reasonable. Also, his estimates are free. My privacy fence and gate are beautiful! and extremely well made. I am very pleased with the work that Austin did. Austin is ethical, conscientious, and definitely a hard worker. He shows up when he says he will and completes the job in the timeframe that he said he would. Austin is now my go to handyman. In fact, I already have a list of jobs for him to do. I would highly recommend Martin Remodeling to anyone looking for an honest and reasonably priced company to do your job You won't be disappointed."

"It went well. The doors look beautiful. I would have liked to get my front entry way and other work done, but the price would have been substantially more. Since I am pleased with the quality product, I won't complain about the price."

FAQs for garage and garage door service projects in Virginia Beach, VA

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.

Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.

A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.

Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.

A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.

Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.

If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
