"Kevin was very punctual and polite. He went right to work replacing the tension cables and readjusting the door. In and out in approximately 45 minutes. In my opinion the price was a little bit on the high side."

"We hired Matt to construct a detached 32 x 26 garage on our property. We started looking for contractors in early summer of 2018, at the peak of the construction season, and Matt was one of two contractors that even extended the courtesy of a return phone call. We met with Matt to discuss our plans and let him look over the proposed site, and he advised that he could undertake the project, but further advised that we were looking at a September start date, due to his backlog. We agreed, and sure enough, he called in early fall to tell us we were next in the queue. Work began shortly thereafter, and we now have a fully finished, an insulated and heated garage that vintage cars would be proud to call home. Matt was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire project. He was in daily contact, letting us know what was to be done that day and in the immediate future. He listened to our ever-evolving input and concerns as the project progressed and accommodated our *in-flight* changes as our dream garage slowly took shape. His sub-contractors were totally professional and Matt personally oversaw all of the work that he and his crew did not perform. We have heard horror stories about contractors erecting whole buildings or doing remodels and we were braced, based on our own experience contracting minor repairs. Our experience with Matt was, fortunately, quite the opposite. He was a pleasure to work with, and a true professional every step of the way. He cares deeply about the customers satisfaction and takes pride in his workmanship. Based on our experience, we give our highest recommendation for Matt and Fords Siding and Remodeling for any home construction or repair."

Enclosing a carport essentially turns it into a garage. You’ll start by framing and finishing exterior walls, then add a garage door (averaging $1,200), windows, and wiring for lights or outlets.
Plan for site prep and, if needed, a thicker slab to handle the added weight. Once the walls are up, insulation, drywall, and exterior siding create a secure, weather-tight space that protects vehicles and gear year-round.
A well-built carport may not add a huge dollar figure to an appraisal, but it can boost buyer appeal. Covered parking protects vehicles and lawn equipment, sharpens curb appeal, and fills what might otherwise be an empty driveway space. If the carport matches your home’s style and stays in good repair, it can make the property more attractive and competitive when you decide to sell.
Most cities and counties require a building permit for a new carport. Fees range from $60 to $800, depending on local codes and the size of the structure. Getting the permit upfront ensures the carport meets zoning rules and HOA guidelines, protecting you from fines or expensive retrofits later. Check with your building department—or ask your contractor—before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
A poured concrete slab is the gold standard for carport foundations. Concrete delivers superior load-bearing strength, keeps posts level, and resists shifting in freeze-thaw conditions. While gravel, dirt, or permeable pavers cost less upfront, they can’t match concrete’s long-term stability, especially if you might convert the carport into a garage later. Investing in a slab now can save money and hassle down the road.
Pre-made kits start at $300 and bundle all the required parts—sometimes installation, too—making them the most budget-friendly option. Custom carports cost more ($12 to $40 per square foot plus labor) but let you match the design, size, and finishes to your home.
If price and quick setup top your list, go with a kit. If you have a tricky layout or want a seamless aesthetic, investing in a custom build is worth the premium.
