"The repairman arrived toward the end of the assigned appointment window, sitting in his truck for 8 minutes before starting work. He examined the system and told me that the evaporator coils were iced-up, and he recommended that we let the system thaw overnight and have another repairman return the next day to add R-22 refrigerant. When I asked him if there were any other options he offered to run the heat cycle to thaw the evaporator coils and then he could make an assessment. After returning outside, I found the repairman running my water hose to cool the compressor, because it had severely overheated and activated a thermal relay preventing the compressor from running (he explained). I inquired about conducting a leak test, and the repairman said it would have to be scheduled another time for an additional charge. I declined the leak test and went inside my home while the compressor finished cooling. When I returned outside, the repairman had added R-22 without advising me of his intentions. Asking how much he added, he said it took two pounds at $95.00/LB R-22. I left and he continued to check the system operation. Working outside my home near my condenser I saw the repairman on his phone. As I walked up to him he told me that the condenser was not operating at the correct pressure and amperage and that he had only seen a compressor fail in this mode "once several years ago." Accordingly, he needed some advice on how to proceed. After discussing the impractical option of replacing the compressor for approximately $2000, he then offered to price a system replacement (without mentioning any need for evaluation or planning: SEER, cooling/heating requirements, square footage, insulation, ducting inspection, permitting, etc). Here is his official proposal that he squeezed into the end of his "DESCRIPTION OF WORK" section on my invoice: "$5746.68 CARRIER 4TON HEAT KIT AND PAD USE EXISTING STAT, STAND, Copper, drain and electrical." Before he prepared his invoice, I told him that I had an Angie's List coupon for $40. When he presented the invoice, it had 2 1/2 pound of R-22 added (versus the 2 pounds he had previously stated). I signed the invoice after discussing this issue, and the repairman departed approximately one hour and twenty-three minutes after he parked his truck. Issue 1: I never explicitly authorized the repairman to add R-22 to my system. Issue 2: After adding refrigerant, he determined that the compressor was defective. Could this not be detected before wasting refrigerant and my money? Issue 3: In the invoice DESCRIPTION OF WORK he notes: "As I added to 3rd lb [R-22] compressor over amped and STARTED clanking. Excessive oil" I suspect that severely overheating a marginally running compressor in a 12-year old condenser unit would cause further problems (apparently a compressor failure)."

"Outstanding! Louis was very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. He took his time to explain the various pieces of the HVAC system, and made suggestions on maintenance. He followed a long detailed checklist, and pretty much tuned-up everything. Would definitely hire for future HVAC needs."

"After collecting estimates from 5 other companies, theirâ s was not only the best competitively priced, the design change the owner / operator â Arthurâ proposed provided a more efficient system, than the previous system. With that said, I would not hesitate to refer Lars AC for any type cooling or refrigeration project."

"We had tenants in our house for a while, and unfortunately they left the AC running at 63°F day and night. In Florida, that basically means the unit never got a break. By the time we moved back in, the AC wasn’t cooling well, the coil was filthy, the filter had never been changed, and even the thermostat inside wasn’t working properly. Then Josh came with his dad and did a full tune-up. They cleaned everything, replaced what was needed, and brought the system back to life. Two years later, the AC still looks and runs like brand new. We signed up for their yearly maintenance plan and couldn’t be happier. Josh is now my AC guy—not just for me, but also for a couple of friends, my mom, and my sister. On top of that, it’s a veteran-owned, family-run business, which makes supporting them even more meaningful. I only wish I could find more professionals like Josh."

FAQs for furnace / forced air heating system install or replace projects in Palm Coast, FL

Converting from an oil furnace to an electric furnace isn't a simple swap—the oil system needs to be completely removed before installing the electric furnace. You'll need a full electric system installation, but you might be able to reuse existing ductwork if it's up to current safety standards. You’ll need to budget for a new electric furnace installation, which costs between $1,800 and $6,200, including professional removal, proper disposal, and safe installation of the new system.

Electric furnaces are 100% efficient at converting electricity into heat. However, some of that heat can be lost as it travels through your home's ductwork or escapes through poorly insulated areas. That's why regular duct maintenance and proper home insulation are important to maximize your furnace's efficiency and reduce heat loss, ensuring consistent warmth and lower energy costs.

With proper maintenance, an electric furnace can last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, outlasting the average gas furnace's lifespan of 15 to 20 years. To keep your electric furnace running efficiently, schedule regular cleanings, tighten connections, and have inspections done before winter arrives. With routine maintenance, you’ll ensure consistent, safe heating for years to come.

The size of the electric furnace you need depends on factors like your home's square footage, climate, and insulation quality. As a general guideline, those who live in warmer climates should multiply their square footage by 30 to 35 BTUs, while those in cooler areas should multiply it by 50 to 60 BTUs.

Consulting with an HVAC professional can help you determine the exact size that's right for your home.

An electric furnace works by converting electricity into heat using high-resistance heating elements. A blower then pushes the warm air through your home's ductwork, distributing heat evenly throughout your space. Since there's no combustion involved, electric furnaces eliminate the risks associated with gas furnaces and provide consistent, reliable heating when properly installed.

An electric furnace uses between 40 and 80 kilowatts per day to heat your home. The exact amount it uses depends on factors like your home's size, insulation, and overall energy requirements. Larger homes or those with poor insulation use more energy than smaller, well-insulated spaces. A professional furnace assessment can help confirm the ideal unit size for your needs.
