Customers say: Quality work

"This project was our second project with Ruben. It entailed installation of a new walking path to our screen porch and the addition of handrails on each side of the steps to match the handrails on the front of our home. Ruben subcontracted the stone work for the walkway and managed the handrail portion of the project himself. He oversaw the entire process from beginning to end. It was all done in a matter of a few days and the quality was great. We are very pleased with the project and will definitely hire Ruben for future home projects. "

"Wow! Manuel Gomez exceeded our expectations! Mag Selva repaired our backyard bridge and made it look new in less time than projected. We hired him immediately afterwards to build a deck off of our sunroom. His attention of framing was impressive. Manuel hand-picked the wood and the finished deck looks beautiful."

"A piece had to be custom made so technicians had to come back. However, they came ahead of schedule and fixed the problem quickly and very, very reasonably. Despite the freezing temperatures! Will definitely hire again."

"it was such a pleasant experience working with Tony. He arrived early and go.t right to work after discussing my needs and wants. I was surprised when I went to Angi and requested for a handyman to set up rods in my closet. Several companies emailed me and only wanted to design new closet space for me, when all I wanted was a handyman. Tony was the only real handyman who contacted me. I would refer ASAP handyman to all my friends and family."

"We were informally quoted just under $1,200 to replace some rotten wood on the outside of our home. We were told it would be done in 1 day. One worker showed up and after 2 days, our job was not completed. A hole was also left in an area that was to be worked on next. They wanted to charge us more for his hours to compete the work. The worker asked for payment at the end of day 2. I asked for an invoice but he couldn?t produce an official one so I took a screenshot of his iPad that just had parts and labor listed. The ?invoice? was $600 more than quoted due to the extra time it took the one worker. We called and spoke to Craig to have the worker come back. He said he?d have him come out Friday at no extra charge. Friday came and went and no worker showed. We called again and Craig said he?ll have the local boss call us, but he never did.  We emailed Mr Handyman through their homepage 2 days ago and haven?t heard back either. FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Alpharetta, GA

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
