"Warning: Long Post. Our roof needed replacing, as there was a leak caused by the previous roofers. One of the workers accidentally bump-shot a nail that was not under the shingle overlap and then disguised it by painting it with tar. (That person was a real artist. It was years before the leak became apparent.) Because the leak was at the overhang and would not do any ceiling damage we waited as long as possible to replace the roof. Accidents happen; covering the bad nail shot by painting it with tar and not telling us just plain sucked. As all shingles turn black with age, it was not noticeable until it was too far gone to deal with. So, we went to Angie’s List and found David Lundberg. What a find! I am a retired carpenter and have done plenty of roofs in my younger days; I know what to look for. He told me on the phone that he was covered up with work and it would be at least 2 months before he could do our roof. We were willing to wait, and are really glad we did. His estimator, Cam, came out and measured and estimated, including repairs that I showed him and a couple things I did not. He was thorough and comprehensive in his assessment. He wrote up the estimate and set down with me and went over every single task they would be performing. Once the building permit from the City of Winter Park was obtained, they proceeded. One crew stripped and repaired any bad plywood and dried the roof in and another crew installed the new roof. Once the roof had been stripped, the bad plywood replaced and the roof dried in, the shingles were delivered. The stripping crew worked 2 6-hour days; they left just as the day was getting way, way hot. I thought that was awesome. (If you that haven’t worked a roof in the Florida summer you just don’t know.) The day after they finished the roofing crew arrived and began putting down the eve drip and shingles. They would work until it became too hot as walking on the shingles can damage them when that are too warm. There was also a 2x6 fascia on the front of the house that needed to be replaced. The shingle crew did that after it was too hot to walk on the shingles. I’ve worked in the carpentry field for 37 years; I had never seen a 24ft 2x6. Ever. Mr. Lundberg had special ordered it so there were no scarf joints in the fascia. Awesome³! When the roof was completed, the Winter Park inspector came to check the roof. He shared with me what I had already found out; David Lundberg Building and Roofing Contractor does nothing less than first-rate work and at a fair price. All of the workers on the crews were courteous and conscientious about the work they performed on our house. The stripping crew found a lot more damage to the plywood decking than could be observed before the roof had been stripped. All of it was repaired and a very nominal cost was added to the final bill. I Googled the definition of Lundberg and found it is a Swedish name meaning “wooded hill”. I thought for sure it meant honesty and/or integrity. The Swedes need to get that fixed. Thank you, Mr. Lundberg for an excellent roofing experience."

"Winter Park Roofing is a stellar company who has been helping me for the past 7 years, and the owner, Mr. James Bell truly provides a tremendous amount of care and goes above and beyond, along with Mrs. Andrea, Greg, Deidra, Cory, Mason.  A close friend recommended Winter Parking Roofing who advised me of the amazing work they had been doing for them for 15 years.   I had to put in a new roof, and I was really appreciative of how they took the time to answer all my questions and walk me through the entire process.  There were a lot of things I did not know, and they thoughtfully explained the installation and roofing types.  Their over 30 years of knowledge in roofing was so valuable as I learned about the right way to do roofing and what are the best materials and what to look out for.   They made sure I was comfortable with everything and it really meant a lot to me.   The whole team had a great work ethic and worked diligently every day.  I was amazed at how spectacular the roof looked when completed.  Their pricing was more than fair as I saw how much attention they put to specific details when they showed me the completed roof.   Their workmanship warranty is excellent and really shows the great confidence they have in their work.   I have not seen higher quality of roofing work then what I have seen from Winter Park Roofing.    I was so impressed with the exceptional integrity and care Mr James Bell stands for, which you can see right away when speaking with him, and which truly sets him and his company apart.    They do business the old fashioned way of treating others like family, by providing exceptional support, honesty, and quality.   What I value most are the people who make the company, and knowing who I am talking to.   I wanted to say thank you again to everyone at Winter Park Roofing for the truly amazing care you provide me.   "

"Extremely well. I had contacted several companies/contractors for estimates for a new roof. The estimates were provided in a timely manner. However, the time for the actual work was a problem. You see our homeowners insurance company was leaving Florida and the new insurance carriers felt a new roof was needed and gave us less than two weeks to complete. During this time, we checked on Angie’s List. In less than three hours, Joe McGinnis with Renewpro responded. Joe come by, looked at what was needed and gave us an estimate. He gave us a day to discuss. In the meantime, we researched all the companies we had received estimates. Only Renewpro was listed with the Better Business Bureau and Angie’s List. Rating was A+ with both. Plus our new insurance company knew of them. So within two days we had an agreement. We were given a time up to four weeks to be completed. Joe took care of the permit application and ordering all the supplies. The supplies came in earlier than expected as well as he permit. Joe was able to complete our roof, have it inspected within the deadline. If and when, we should need a full roof, Renewpro will be the company we contact. We attempted to pay a deposit more than once. Mr McGinnis would only take payment upon completion and satisfaction. Suggest you should not wait to contact Joe should you have a need for partial or complete roof. Lou and Sandie"

"David came out and gave me a quote and returned in 2 days to do the repair. He repaired the roof and even replaced the indoor ceiling tile that had the ugly water stain on it. I would definitely recommend them and call them again for any future repairs. I reached out to 3 companies and they were the only ones to return my call."

"Please remember that your home is the single largest investment that your will make in your lifetime and if done correctly each project that you do will add value to your home. After spending 40 plus years doing major upgrades in manufacturing facilities, I have come to expect a high level of professional service from contractors industry and also working on my home. Castle Roofing is one of those contractors I strongly recommend. They took the time to understand what the total project included and made recommended products exceeded my standards. We found some water damage on one of the eves and around the chimney. The owner of the company came over and took care of it right away and at a reasonable price. They did a excellent job at a very reasonable price and did a great job cleaning up."

"I hired Sheegog Contracting to replace my roof and other damage after finding I had squirrels in my attic. A leak was found near my chimney and there was damage to some of the trusses near the leak. My insulation needed to be removed and my attic cleaned and sanitized and new insulation installed. When the shingles I needed for replacement were available, my roof was installed quickly and efficiently. Robert Bonesteel was avaiable to answer any questions I had and guided me through the whole process. All work was done quickly and efficiently and all the repairs were made making my home safe from Florida weather and looking brand new. I would highly recommend Sheegog Contracting to any home owners needing their services."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Altamonte Springs, FL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
