"We were unaware of an extra-large build-up of lint in our dryer.  The lint eventually caught fire and we had a small fire inside our dryer.  Fortunately, the fire did not spread and nothing was damaged except for the dryer.  We called SOS to see if the dryer could be repaired -- we were thinking it would need to be replaced.  The technician came out, inspected the dryer and told us it could definitely be salvaged.  We were thrilled.  He worked on the dryer immediately, but had to schedule the vent cleaning a few days later.  However, we were not charged until the vent cleaning was completed.  SOS provided me with one of the best experiences I have had with a repair company.  I was thrilled with the end result!"

"My 20 year old air conditioner died and so I decided to go for a complete HVAC system replace that included zoning. They were not the lowest quoted price, but I selected them based on their Angie's List reputation and also the knowledge, helpfulness, and transparency of their manager that quoted the job (Kyle). I must say that I am extremely happy with the end result. The 3 people performing the install were highly professional and also very careful to take care of my house (drop cloths on the stairway / vacuumed when complete). A few things on integrity: 1. Once my old HVAC unit was pulled out, Kyle was pointing out to me where the automated dampers were to be installed when he noticed that I actually needed 7 dampers, not the 6 quoted - he never mentioned it again, just ordered another damper and absorbed the cost. 2. This was a fairly large job. On the final install day, I noticed that they had pulled out the copper tubing between the outside AC unit and the inside HVAC unit (probably 60 feet of tubing). They then replaced it with larger diameter tubing. They said that Kyle had caught it during his inspection, so they replaced it. The interesting thing was that we had already been using the air conditioner over night and it worked just fine with the smaller tubing - I would have never know if they had just left it incorrect. 3. After I signed off on everything, they said they would come back and label all my gas valves (dryer, water heaters, stovetop) / do some final adjustments on the programable thermostats. Once again, they did it. So I would definitely rank Aristech an "A" for this recent install."

"Replacing the staircase light fixture was a difficult job requiring the use of a ladder, a step ladder and an aluminum plank to create a level workspace in order to access the light. The new pendant was lowered by 6 inches, compared to the old one, to allow easy exchange of light bulbs. The electrician was creative in solving some installation problems.  He also saved me some money by advising me that some other electrical work I was considering might not be necessary."

"The salesman was kind and answered all our questions with ease even though he was a trainee.  The delivery guys were careful with our new appliances and were able to quickly remove our old ones without any problem.  Overall, it was a great experience."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

FAQs for appliance (smaller size) installation and replacement projects in Arlington, MN

Garbage disposals last around 10 years when properly maintained. If your unit is getting close to that age or repair costs are increasing, it might be time to consider a replacement. Regular maintenance and careful use can help maximize your garbage disposal's performance and help it reach its maximum lifespan.

There are several signs to watch for that indicate your garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Replacement may be necessary if it doesn't work even though it's properly connected, the blades are worn and causing delays in operation, a persistent foul odor that won't go away, or leaks coming from the bottom due to a compromised seal. If you're experiencing any of these issues, it might be time to consider getting a new garbage disposal to keep your kitchen running smoothly.

A plumber or handyperson can install your garbage disposal if the electrical connections are already in place. If you need additional electrical work, you'll also need to hire a qualified electrician to handle the rest of the job. Hiring local professionals ensures the installation is safe and up to code.

It’s important to avoid putting certain items down the drain to keep your garbage disposal running smoothly and avoid clogs. Expandable foods like pasta, rice, oatmeal, and bread can swell and cause blockages. Coffee grounds, grease, fats, and oils can accumulate and create clogs. Hard items such as meat bones, nuts, and fruit pits can damage the disposal blades. Eggshells, potato peels, and fibrous vegetables such as celery, pumpkin, corn husks, artichokes, onion skins, and asparagus can wrap around the blades or obstruct the pipes.

Not every sink is suitable for the installation of a garbage disposal. The compatibility of the sink with the disposal depends on the material and structural integrity. While many standard sinks support these units, fireclay sinks are prone to cracking under the added stress and should not be used. Confirm that your sink can securely accommodate the disposal before installation.

Choosing the correct size garbage disposal depends on your household size and how much waste you produce. A 1/3–1/2 horsepower unit should be sufficient for households with one to two people. If your household consists of three to six people, a 1/2–3/4 horsepower unit is recommended. FA3/4–1 horsepower model will be necessary. For larger households of five to eight people
