"We had an exceptional experience working with Michal on our house extension project. From the very beginning, he demonstrated an outstanding ability to translate our vision into a functional, beautiful design that seamlessly blends with the existing structure. His attention to detail, creativity, and deep understanding of both aesthetics and practicality made the entire process smooth and enjoyable. What truly stood out was his communication and responsiveness—he was always available to answer questions, provide updates, and offer thoughtful suggestions that improved the overall outcome. He collaborated effectively with our sub-contractors, engineer and interior designer and ensured that every stage of the project stayed on track, on budget, and in line with local regulations. The final result has exceeded our expectations. The new space feels light-filled, spacious, and perfectly suited to our family's needs. We receive compliments on it from many people! I wouldn't hesitate to rec"

Small jobs welcome

"I found Johnâ s service through a contractor that I didnâ t end up working with. But working with John was a nice experience. I have plans to do some reno work on my townhouse kitchen, and an important part of the job is to widen the entrance between the kitchen and the dining room. Because itâ s a townhouse structure and the management donâ t know where the original blueprint is, and they require an architectural evaluation and drawing for opening the walls. I had to hire a structural engineer/architect to do the job. John came to my house several times. He did not open the wall to probe. He looked at the structures from the basement to the kitchen and did his engineer calculation and gave me the architectural drawings according to how big I wanted to widen the entrance. I donâ t know anything about architect, but his drawing was sent to the City Hall for permit. I did change my thoughts on the all opening a couple of times, and he always responded promptly and kindly, and made changes accordingly. I had expected a much higher price from contractors for hiring an architect, but John was very reasonable, and said for a small adjustment, it wouldnâ t cost so much. I thought everything went well in our communication and the final product and the value of the work. One thing though, when the city building inspector came, he said where we wanted the wall to end was not sitting on a basement column, and that piece of end wall has to be on a column. So this means I had to put back 6 inches of the wall I had originally cut. I was a little bummed about that. I canâ t say if this is something the architect shouldâ ve known (or maybe building code is slightly different every city?), but I wish I could be better prepared or informed about this particular building code. Overall, I thought it was a good experience and I would recommend JFA Design Group."

"Horrible experience. We were in a hurry for a permit set for a very simple architectural roof change. They drew things they didn't need to draw, took weeks longer than expected, missed and changed deadline dates, wouldn't refund the "expedited" timeline fee, would sometimes not reply or respond. Horrible experience. Do not recommend. "

"Marc Hershman is a wonderful architect! He was so easy to work with and offered great ideas for how to improve the house spatially so that the flow of the floor plan(on the first floor) became more aesthetic and efficient. Marc worked tirelessly in the extreme heat of the summer to achieve precise measurements of every inch of the house. His detailed plans were drawn beautifully and accurately and explained articulately in our first meeting. We appreciated Marc's follow up visits to ensure that the construction was done properly and according to plan. Marc related to the contractor in a positive and professional manner. Overall, Marc was always professional and prompt. We found his pricing to be extremely reasonable- great value for the dollar! We would definitely work with him again and highly recommend Marc Hershman to anyone in need of high-quality architectural services."

FAQs for drafting or cadd service projects in Ashland, MA

Architectural drafting includes roofing. Some professionals who work at roofing manufacturing or installation companies may only work on roofing and cladding components.

A floor plan is a simplified drawing of the layout of rooms on one floor of a home. These are usually created by designers for arranging furniture and appliances. These are not technical drawings or blueprints and should not be used in place of them.

Draughtsman is simply the European spelling of draftsman. The terms are interchangeable.

If you have a complete design idea for a residential property and either you or your contractor employs an engineer, you can hire a draftsman to make your design into usable technical drawings. This is typical for simple additions and remodels like adding a bathroom, finishing a basement or adding a garage.

Traditionally, blueprints are technical drawings in white on blue paper. The term is now used interchangeably with any type of digital construction plan. Classic blueprints are still in use for older homes. Drafters translate these paper plans into digital representations when remodeling or adding on to older homes.

Little similarities exist between draftsmen, engineers and designers. They all complement and often work on teams with each other.

  • Drafter – creates technical drawings from design ideas. Usually works for engineers, designers and architects.

  • Engineer – designs and oversees the technical aspects of a construction project. Where an architect thinks of design aspects, the engineer works on making it a reality. They are mostly concerned with environmental issues and meeting all codes and regulations for the safety aspects of the project. They also manage projects.

  • Designer – only concerned with the visual aspects of a project. They often create their own technical drawings though sometimes work in conjunction with engineers, architects and draftspersons.
