"Prestige Fence & Deck is a great company, Jon and his crew did an excellent job replacing my old wooden fence, I was so impressed with their workmanship that I had them rebuild my Patio deck and gazebo, they did a fantastic job on both and added beauty to my back yard, plus the price was super reasonable. "I believe in life, the universe gifts us people when we need them. Mike and his crew at Capitol City Wood Works were one of these universal gifts our family was lucky to receive. We met Mike about 6 months ago, shortly after my FIL had passed away and my MIL could no longer take care of the house. Our goal was to sell the house. The first problem...the back deck (55ft x 25ft) with a not working pool (33ft x 20ft) in the middle of the deck needed major repairs and code upgrades. The second problem, my husband & I live across the country & were overseeing the repairs from 1,300 miles away. Using Angie's list we found 3 different contractors to interview for the job. Each interview we stated we wanted the deck to be safe, use the structure that is there and look good. Mike was the only contractor that did two important things: 1. he sought to understand our unique situation of distance & selling the house 2: he listened to what we wanted for repairing the deck rather than a new build"

"Mr. Carrate and his crew replaced my crushed granite pathway with a stone walkway that ran from the front porch to the street. I was very pleased with the outcome. The stone he recommended went well with my home. The quality of work was excellent; and, the price was right."

Small jobs welcome

"Our old screened in porch (if you could still call it that) was falling down. Russell replaced what was left of the old one and now we have a beautiful screened in porch--with two doors (including a doggie door). Russel was quick to respond to our needs and finished the job in a timely manner. Now we hope to have him finish the inside ceiling. We have an old house, so getting everything to lay right was not easy--but Russell did a great job of it."

FAQs for deck or porch repair projects in Austin, TX

Composite and ipe hardwood decks provide the longest durability for your outdoor space. Composite decks last 30 years exactly, and ipe hardwood decks continue reliably for 75 years when maintained properly. Frequent cleaning and sealing preserve these materials and protect them against weathering. This exceptional endurance minimizes future repair needs and offers a solid, lasting investment.

Replacing your deck directly increases your home’s market value and enhances its curb appeal. A new deck returns between 50% and 65% of its cost in additional home value at resale. This upgrade not only modernizes your outdoor living space but also significantly bolsters buyer interest, ensuring that your investment adds both functionality and an attractive aesthetic.

You should replace your deck when visible signs of wear begin to compromise safety and functionality. The quality of maintenance and the durability of the chosen materials determine when a deck reaches the end of its life. For example, decks crafted from superior materials like mahogany or ipe hardwood can last over 50 years, while cedar decks require replacement after 15 to 20 years. Regular inspections help guide this decision.

Your deck needs to be replaced when clear structural issues compromise its safety. Indicators include soft spots, sunken boards, scattered wood shavings, and hollow sounds that indicate rot or pest damage. These symptoms show that simple repairs are insufficient to maintain a secure deck. A professional evaluation is essential to confirm whether full replacement is necessary to protect your outdoor living area.
