"Our house in northern Virginia (Chantilly) needed an upgrade to our powder room and master bathroom after 25 years since we moved here. We found a number of recommended contractors via Angie’s List and had some of the contractors visit to survey and give us estimates. We selected FTB Tile and Marble form Woodbridge, Virginia and we are very pleased that we did. The owner of FTB, Frank, conducted the surveys himself, and communicated ideas, options, process and schedule, then sent designs and price quotes for both bathrooms. The professionalism, honesty and competence shown by Frank during the survey, and the detailed statements of work and clarity and reasonableness of projected costs caused us to select FTB over other contractors. We proceeded with the Powder Room first to see how FTB would perform before we signed a contract for the larger and significantly more complex renovation of the master bathroom. After meeting with FTB’s recommended designers and selecting tile, vanity, toilet and fixtures, Frank adjusted the details and costs to match our selections, and all within our budget. The renovation of the powder room was completed in 9 days and involved demolition and then installation of new floor tile, toilet, vanity, lights, mirrors, fan, plumbing, electrical and fixtures, as well painting walls, ceiling, door and trim. A project manager was assigned, and the installers, Walter, who has worked for the company for 17 years, and Alfred, were amazing – professional, competent, responsive and pleasant. They worked tirelessly every day and always kept the premises clean. The outcome was a beautiful, new powder room which gave us compete confidence to proceed with FTB to renovate the master bathroom. The process was repeated – updated survey by Frank, meeting with the design consultants, updating the scope of work for the selections we made – again within our budget – ordering and delivery of materials, demolition and renovation. We were fortunate to have Walter and Alfred return to do the bulk of the work which was complete under schedule in 5 weeks with the exception of the shower glass which was purposely scheduled a week later to ensure accurate measurements and fit. This project involved enlarging the bathroom, including the shower and installation of a new stand-alone tub, and required demolition of a wall and installation of a new wall, and relocation of plumbing and electrical, painting, etc. In the middle of the renovation, the pandemic began to hit and FTB team took great pains to keep isolated from us while communicating effectively from a distance to complete the project. The end-result was an absolutely gorgeous bathroom. We highly recommend FTB Tile and Marble."

"In 2012, I hired a cheap contractor to remodel two small full bathrooms, and quickly learned my lesson on why you check for current license, bond, insurance, and knowledge of basic construction methods. I should have fired the guy after one day, but felt I could live with some imperfections for the too good to be true low price. Oops! The shower pan in the master bath failed, leaking through the living room ceiling, and in 2016 I have had to re build the entire shower as well as replace the floor. I am lucky to have found Northern Virginia Tile Co. to do the work. What a difference a professional, skilled, and knowledgable craftsman can make. Duke Robertson did the work on my project from start to finish, and did a fantastic job. One of the many things that was so impressive about his work was the care and attention to detail throughout every inch of what he touched. Everything was level, plumb, rock solid, laser straight grout lines, zero lippage or other tiling shenanigans, and when the job was finished it was showroom finished, not 'substantially complete and I'll be back in a week or two to patch up that hole and touch up that paint and fix that little ol' leak. That bathroom was DONE. Painted, sparkling, towel rack on the wall done. Kudos to Duke for being a true craftsman, working with care and integrity, and being a heckuva nice guy to have working in your home for a couple of weeks. Estimate was accurate and price was exceedingly fair, no surprises. Worst case scenarios that might have impacted the final cost but couldn't be known until the walls came down were discussed in detail and in advance. Northern Virginia Tile Co's schedule was busy but well worth the wait. I had 6 other companies come out and estimate the job, and had wild variations in cost, approach, and professionalism. NV Tile Co-- and Duke in particular-- was a clear winner from the beginning. I checked references, asked a million questions, tried to learn as much as I could about each aspect of the project, and probably tried Duke's patience a little with my inflated sense of skepticism after my bad experience with the previous contractor, but he kindly answered every question, was never put off, and in the end knew what the heck he was doing. I will most definitely have Duke and NV Tile Co re-do the other full bathroom that my previous contractor messed up-- but that's for next year. Highest recommendation for these guys!"

"We called them for a leak in our shower that was occurring inside the wall.  From our call to describe what we needed through the finish we were positively impressed with everybody we dealt with at this company.  They responded promptly, politely, and professionally, and the plumber they sent quickly and expertly diagnosed the problem, which thankfully was one that could be quickly and inexpensively repaired. <br /> At other times we've used two other local plumbing companies, and both were competent, but based on this experience Gene's plumbing will be our choice for future plumbing work. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Sean was friendly and professional. We own a 75-year-old house so no job is standard. He worked well with us as we made a few adjustments when installing the Bathroom Vanity"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Banco, VA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
