"The owner is fantastic, he was able to get the job done with a few days of me calling because I was having floors installed. My only problem was that they accidentally painted part of a wall that was already painted, fixed it but not so that it isn't noticeable, there is a large drip on the wall and they didn't put a second coat on one of the walls. All minor things, but in the future I will take a closer look at any jobs I hire them to do in the future. <br />"

"Mike came the day before in order to prep the walls.  He and his helper arrived promptly at 8 am each morning, and began the work. Mike always starts a job with a prayer that all will go well.  And it did!  We were extremely happy with the quality work he did and with the results.  We had chosen four different colors for the two bathrooms, wanting some focal walls.  The job also involved painting some built in shelves in one of the bathrooms.  We couldn't be happier.  Mike was neat, did the moving needed, and swept up after himself.   Actually we originally planned to have only the master bathroom painted, but liked it so well that we asked him to do the second full bathroom.  Definitely will use Mike again! The work took two full days, with the prep work and the finishing touches done for a few hours the afternoon before he started and after the painting was finished. <br />"

"I retired from the federal government and needed to sell my condo and move to Florida. I had to move before paint job. Got an excellent quote. My real estate agent had to coordinate efforts because I first had old carpet removed. Then painting followed by installation of new carpeting. Tony worked well with my real estate agent in scheduling. The paint job was excellent and I got a good return on my investment."

"The house has been well-maintained, I've re-stained it every few years as necessary since it was built. Finally I got tired of doing it myself and got a few quotes for the work. SDR didn't come out to provide an estimate, they had me send pictures of each side of the house instead, and answer a questionnaire. Innovative, I thought. They warned me they were very busy and it might be 3-4 weeks before they could even find time to provide an estimate, and 3-4 months before they could start the work. I called them a week later as I had the other quotes already, and within a few days they were able to provide their quote. It's obvious they didn't want the job, as their quote was THREE TIMES the price of the outfit I hired, and I didn't hire the lowest bidder. I'm looking for a high-quality job at a fair price. My front porch ceiling just needed a light cleaning and one coat of stain, as it doesn't see any weather, had never had a coating on it, and wasn't greyed. They wanted over $3000 just for the porch ceiling. I could hire a carpenter to replace the ceiling for less than that! The quote was very detailed, to the point that they had a line item for travel time, calculated down to the penny. Because I was switching stain products, they quoted a very aggressive power washing, which does enough damage to the wood that the entire house would need to be sanded before staining. Instead of SDR, I hired a Class A general contractor who has built over 150 log homes. He came out right away to see the house and quote the job in person, and suggested an approach that was not as damaging to the logs. He used a chemical stripper followed by a light power-washing to make the logs look like new, then two coats of stain. On the positive side SDR was very professional to deal with, and answered all of my questions thoroughly over several phone calls. If they can stay as busy as they are at the exorbitant rates they charge then I guess they are successful, but they won't be getting any of my money."

"They are wonderful painters, and Julie is learning how to to do this, but Mickey does so much. Sandy did a raw job for us. We don't have a porch or overhang for the front door, and when the wind and water came down, it came out more at an angle towards the house, and it got into the large window that we have over the door. The water got into the caulking and sat there, so we had a mildew smell. We called a company and said we had a smell and we didn't know where it was. The company said I should take pictures and send them to them. Mickey was here doing the painting, and I told him about the mildew and he took pictures, and I got reimbursed. Mickey did an excellent job of cutting away, and there was one place that was covered in Mildew and he replaced that. He is a Jack of all trades. He was extremely prompt. They were walking in the door when they said they would be here."

"We have used this contractor several times in the past and his service has recently been declining. This last time we were really disappointed. He quoted a price for the above work and completed about 75% of it. We paid him in full and then he did not come back. When we asked him when he was planning on finishing the work he was unresponsive. When we finally got in touch with him he said he was booked up for the next week and wouldn't be able to finish the work.  (He left a room unpainted, caulking incomplete, paint tape and tools out, and didn't power wash a door. We also had paint splatters from some painting that he did complete on a darker colored wall.) As I said before, he was usually very professional so this time we were disappointed. <br />"

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in Belle Haven, VA

Painting vinyl siding is a budget-friendly way to revive curb appeal without paying for new panels. As long as the boards aren’t warped, cracked, or leaking, a coat of high-quality acrylic paint can buy you another five to 10 years before replacement.

Stick to lighter shades so the siding doesn’t soak up excess heat, and prep the surface well for the paint to bond. If you’re seeing rot or moisture damage, skip the paint and plan for new siding instead.

High-quality acrylic paint is recommended for vinyl siding. Acrylic paint adheres firmly to vinyl surfaces and resists peeling and fading, providing a sleek and long-lasting finish. Ensure the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for optimal results. Your exterior painting pro has the expertise to properly prepare your siding’s surface to ensure proper adhesion.

Priming is not required if the vinyl siding remains in good condition and is properly cleaned. However, if the original color is severely faded or the panels have become porous, priming becomes essential. Priming provides a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and enhances durability, ensuring the acrylic finish adheres properly and lasts longer.

A paint sprayer is the quickest, most consistent way to coat vinyl siding. The fine mist reaches grooves a roller can miss and lays down an even layer in a fraction of the time. You’ll still need a brush for tight corners, but a sprayer slashes labor hours and reduces lap marks.

If you’re renting equipment, ask the supplier for a tip size made for exterior acrylics so the paint atomizes correctly and sticks to the siding.

Painted vinyl siding lasts between five and 10 years. The durability depends on the quality of the surface preparation and the local climate conditions. When the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepped, and high-quality acrylic paint is used, the finish endures longer. In hotter regions, the lifespan may be closer to five years, while cooler climates help extend it.
