"Excellent, no problems. My car was new the first year I used the service and there has never been any damage during the transports. The men picking up and delivering the car have always been pleasant and cooperative. Both Ely and Guy at United Transport has been highly responsive to my needs. I would highly recommend this company."

"I'll start out by saying that our carpet is now installed, and it looks great. During the project, there were some scheduling surprises and unexpected glitches that seemed destined to make this a bad experience. However, excellent customer service from Scott, our Macadam project manager, mitigated the problems and resulted in an overall good contractor engagement. • We were on a time crunch due to family arriving soon to stay with us for a while. There wasn't time to get multiple bids, so we chose Macadam Floor and Design, based primarily on the positive Angie's list reviews. • I called Macadam on January 22 and talked with Scott, explaining that we needed to replace about 500 square feet of carpet that our geriatric cat had damaged with urine -- a bonus room and a hallway. I said we needed it to be installed by February 2. Scott replied that if the carpet was available locally, they can get the material in a day or two, and that they could then make the Feb 2 installation deadline. • The replacement carpet was indeed available locally, so I gave the go-ahead to start the process. The Macadam website has a prominent badge saying, "Guarantee Next Day Installation on Most Products". With that “we’re fast” assurance, and Scott’s confidence about making the Feb 2 deadline, I was sure I had chosen the right carpet dealer. • I received the quote by email on the morning of Jan 24. That afternoon, I paid for the carpet to be ordered. I figured all was well. It wasn't. • The next day (Jan 25) Scott said they had called over 20 different installers and none could do it by Feb 2. The closest they could get was someone doing it Feb 6 and 7. (Really? For a relatively tiny job of one room and a hallway? For a “we’re fast” company?) My schedule didn't work Feb 6-8, so I asked if Feb 9 would work. Scott said they would try to work something out. On Jan 30, I still hadn’t heard anything, so I contacted Scott for an update on the installation scheduling. Also, I suggested separating the old carpet removal from the new carpet installation. Initially Scott said no; they would not be able to -- but then called later to say that an installer had an opening on the following day to remove the old carpet. And, the new carpet installation would be done Feb 9 as requested. • The installer and I got along well; nice guy. Unfortunately, his van was mostly full from his prior job, so he could not fit all the old carpet being removed. He asked if he could put the remainder of the carpet scraps in our backyard until Feb 9th when he came to install the new carpet. I didn’t want to subject our neighbors to an eight-day eyesore of old, stained carpet rolls, so I said I would haul it to the dump the next day when I was getting rid of some urine-damaged shelving units. • A big eyebrow-raiser then came when the installer told me he could not clear the pad staples from floor because he had accidentally buried his staple removal tool in the stack of old carpet in his van. So, he couldn’t finish that part of the carpet removal until he came on the 9th. But I could not wait that long, since I needed to apply Kilz primer on the floor. So, I ended up doing that staple removal work myself using a screwdriver to pop off each one by hand. • An even bigger eyebrow-raiser came when the installer arrived on Friday Feb 9. Without prior warning, he said he would only be able to do the hallway on that day, and would have to return on Monday Feb 12 to do the bonus room. He left around lunchtime, then returned on the following Monday and finished the job in 3 hours. There would have been plenty of time to do the entire job on Friday the 9th. The effect on us was that we lost the whole weekend of putting everything back together with the new carpet in the bonus room -- because it wasn’t there yet. Instead, after the carpet was installed Monday I spent a couple of late nights doing it after coming home from work. Also, I had to re-arrange my Monday work schedule to be home for the remaining installation. • Ultimately, the end result was fine -- we have new carpet in the bonus room and hallway, and it was expertly installed. But if I had known that our relatively small project would present so many scheduling issues and eyebrow-raisers, I may have chosen someone other than Macadam. • However, when I described our overall experience to Scott, he was distressed about what had happened. Instead of getting defensive, he took full responsibility as the project manager and apologized on behalf of Macadam. In order to compensate for my extra carpet haul-away expenses and labor between the first two installer visits, Scott arranged to waive a couple of the installation charges from my invoice. • Scott’s positive response went a long way toward mitigating the problems we experienced. Even though there were scheduling surprises and installation eyebrow-raisers, Scott’s exemplary customer service would cause me to consider Macadam for future flooring jobs when they arise."

"Lisa is a genius! With creativity and precision, she maximized every nook and cranny of our tiny 1906 cottage and brought it into the 21st century, while maintaining its original charm and character. Our "new" home is so much more functional now, and a delight to live and work in. Lisa took the lead on our projects (kitchen, bathroom, basement), but Adam is equally savvy. Both are fantastic listeners, brainstormers, collaborators, total professionals and all-around lovely human beings. We highly recommend Christie Architecture, and look forward to working with them again in the future!"

FAQs for remodel to accommodate a disability projects in Bend, OR

Standard Medicare coverage often doesn't extend to home modifications, such as roll-in showers. In specific circumstances where medical necessity is clearly established, limited coverage might be available through certain Medicare programs. Many homeowners explore alternative funding sources such as home modification grants, veterans' benefits, or specialized financing programs designed for accessibility improvements. Consulting with a Medicare representative about your specific situation provides the most accurate guidance.

Roll-in showers deliver significant benefits beyond their monetary return, particularly in terms of safety, independence, and long-term accessibility. By eliminating barriers to bathing, these installations help prevent falls while accommodating mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers. Their open design creates a contemporary appearance that appeals to many homebuyers. For households planning to age in place or accommodate family members with mobility challenges, the functional advantages often outweigh pure financial considerations.

A standard roll-in shower installation takes two to four days. Projects requiring extensive renovation or plumbing changes may take longer, potentially extending to several weeks or months. Factors affecting the timeline include existing bathroom configuration, permit processing times, contractor availability, and material delivery schedules. Creating proper drainage slopes often requires additional preparation time compared to traditional shower installations, particularly when modifying existing floor structures.
