"It was a blessing when I found Danilo of Rad Basement WAter Control to complete the installation of sump pumps, French drains and waterproofing in my basement. Every time it rained, I felt like a prisoner in my own home, wondering how much water would come in, but once Rad Basement Water Control came they gave me a detailed quote of exactly what needed to be done to address this ongoing problem. I found Danilo to be very trustworthy, courteous, and professional. He works by example. I not only appreciated his company’s hard work, but the quality of their work. Danilo updated me daily on the progress of the work and the next steps expectations. Danilo is a true gentleman and a man of honor and I am happy to recommend his services. "I'm not fully moved into the home yet, but I will update when I am there permanently. The crew was very professional, worked diligently, cleaned up after every day of work (three day job--french drain expansion, two additional sump pumps installed, window drains into the sump pumps, pretty extensive job)."

"They were great to work with and came in with a competitive price. They were clean and efficient. Had 125 feet of French drains installed through our basement with 2 sump pumps done in one day. Came back a few days later to complete what was needed outside the house."

"Hiring a reliable and competent contractor is always a crap shoot especially one involving a conversion from oil to gas. Dawson Mechanical came in ( as the first estimate) and immediately made us see why they were the right choice .Dave Weinfeldt made us feel at ease and gave us a breakdown of his personal qualifications and what services he would supply for us the potential customers.Dave went over with us the different options regarding boilers, hot water heaters and how he would prepare the hookups for gas dreyer and gas range in our future renovations . Since we are remodeling our basement he gave us all the needed hot water baseboard information which we requested...We sat down and Dave wrote up an estimate with the caveat that he would work with us regarding any other competitor’s estimates. We reviewed the other bids and found him to be in the middle...Dawson Mechanical was our choice and we were pleased with the promptness, professional attitude and punctuality. Dave and crew were the BEST...John, Carlos Ricky and Euvillio were all knowledgeable and worked as a team. I’m sure Dave Weindfeldt plays a big part in their work ethic...Super group of guys... clean up was fantastic... they prepped the stairs and area where our old oil furnace was removed... There was no damage to any stairs and wall which was a big relief... A final shout out to the office ( Wanda was great) who set up inspections and scheduled all the important things...Wanda also helped guide us through the many questions we had and if she wasn’t sure ...she found out the answer and called us back...Thank You Wanda and Dawson Mechanical...I highly recommend Dawson and Dave Weinfeldt ‘s team of plumbers to all who need reliable installers for natural gas, back flow issues etc. A great job at a fair and competitive price."

"They came out on a weekend and we're our saving grace during one of the most frustrating experiences we've had in this house. We couldn't use any plumbing without flooding the basement with sewage, it was early stay at home days, and we felt like we would go mad. They showed up and gave us an price for replacing the broken pipe, and set in to work. They worked for the entire weekend essentially, staying extremely late at night and showing up early the next morning, and at one point driving far out at night to get supplies since their usual local place was closed (again, quarantine time) . The reason it took so long was because after opening up the floor to get to the end of the pipe to replace it they found more damaged pipes, and replaced those as well. By the end of it they had spent the entire weekend on a job they expected to only last an afternoon, had charged us not nearly enough for the amount of work they did, and fixed a leaking bidet we had for free for good measure. They also advised us to do camera scan to look for any other problems, which they couldn't do until the water drained out, and even did an initial mop of the basement (which, remember, sewage flooding). I'm honestly half convinced these people are magic helpful brownies or something, it's unreal how helpful they were! Somehow our drier which has not succeeded in drying clothes for over a year has started working in a single cycle since they left, despite the fact they didn't even do anything with it, and in fact specifically said they don't do driers and offered to recommend someone else when we mentioned it. Suffice to say, I cannot recommend them highly enough"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Bloomfield, NJ

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
