"This company is fantastic! After many months of broken promises and delays from a roofer we had hired earlier in the year, Armor was willing to step in on short notice and fit us into their schedule in December -- not a great month for roofing! From the office staff to the installers at the site, everyone was responsive, did a terrific, professional job, and were flexible in working around our schedule, A truly outstanding company! My only regret is that we didn't know about them from the start -- back in August, we could have given them a much better weather day to install our roof!"

"Excellent company! Great communication and quality of work, trustworthy people. I highly recommend this company. This house was taken down to the frame and rebuilt with new electric, plumbing, roof, insulation, windows, drywall, floors and custom kitchen. Brian and Larry were very knowledgable and always available to discuss decisions. Brian always kept me updated on progress and returned any missed calls right away. I feel as if I won the lottery in finding this contractor. I was nervous hiring a contractor for the first time after hearing many horror stories about terrible contractors from other people. This company and its people are amazing. I can't say enough about them, I recommend them to everyone for any size project, from decks, roofs to complete remodel projects you can't go wrong with B. McLaughlin Quality Construction!"

"Mr. Haas identified problems in our roof installation and issued a report. He suggested re-install and steps that we should take to get it done. It was a long process that involved county and DPOR. Mr. Haas was very helpful every step during the entire process. He is highly experienced and very responsive to our calls, text, and email. We eventually got the roof reinstalled in a very good quality. Mr. Haas was onsite multiple times to ensure the right materials and methods were used. It would not be possible without the help from Mr. Haas."

"Job was scheduled well in advance. The estimate was fair and very competitive. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with Hendrickson's roofing. The crew was terrific. They pay attention to detail and do excellent quality work. I would use them again in a heartbeat. They also carry a best-in-class warranty. Keep in mind with any roofing job, the contractor can only give an approximate start date since weather can be an issue with schedule <br />"

"Greg met with us at our land to discuss our estimate and go over details of the building process. He offered experienced suggestions and was sincere in his ways we could improve our house design. He spent 90 minutes of his time explaining his work methods and answering any questions we had. We were very impressed with everything we saw and heard from Greg. He even brought samples of colors of siding and other materials books for us to look over. He knew many things about the details of the local building codes and permit procedures that he would take care of as part of the building process. Unfortunately we had to cancel our building project and never got the chance to actually work with Greg in the building of our house. He would have been our choice if our project would have gone through. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Blue Hill, ME

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
