"All aspects went very well, from the initial consultation (provided clear explanations and useful advice) to roof replacement (crew was timely, careful, and competent) to follow-up on solar panel activation (all worked smoothly and, as needed, they walked us through the steps needed). Note that total price does not allow for tax advantages for the solar panel installation."

"Extremely well. The team showed up on time every morning and was willing to work 12+ hours/day to get the work done quickly. The management team was super responsive and delivered on everything they promised. We have had several rainstorms since the install and the roof is holding up perfectly."

"This company is great. Dennis had done the roof for us many years ago, but it started leaking during hard rains. Dennis came and fixed the leak, then gave us an estimate to redo our roof. After we contracted with Dennis and a date was set, the job was started and completed in about 2.5 days. The team of workers came at 7:30 AM on May 25, (as promised) and removed the old shingles. They completed the removal and cleanup in about 3 hours. They put down tarps around the house before starting the removal and cleaned everything up before they left. Later that day, the new roofing materials were delivered. Friday morning about 6:30 AM, the roofer arrived and worked all day. He had to repair a few bad places and install the shingles. He completed the major portion of the work on Friday, then returned about 8 AM on Saturday and had the job done by early afternoon. We are very pleased with the new roof and the efficiency of the workers. They even did some extra work cutting back bushes and trees that were in the way. I recommend Dennis Cook Roofing very highly and I will use them again."

"Company provided a clear contract of all work to be done and the lead roofer had a copy to follow. Once started the job went well in spite of rain. Work was promised from 12-14 weeks after contract was signed and began near the end of the window. Tear off was expeditious and the crew protected the yard and house. Roofers neatly replaced termite damaged roof parts, installed insulation, 7/16 OSB, weatherlock in valleys, two layers of felt and roofing. Additionally a vent was moved and two new vents added. City of La Mesa Inspection passed after tearoff and reroofing. Clean up was careful. The only call back was some painting on new eves that were missed, a quality painter primed and painted the missed area with appropriate care. The ladies in the office were most helpful in facilitating communication."

"I did a lot of research on solar companies for some time and I was please to see that SunLux was the right choice from the research I had done. I had both the roof and the solar system installed. They are A rated, have been upfront from the beginning and best of all they are guaranteeing my system, inverter, and MY roof (to not leak where they installed or altered) for 25 years. From the very start I was a little skeptical, but the salesperson who helped me was very honest and didn't pressure me at all. After the sales process, someone comes out and surveys your house then to the design/engineering team. Engineering made plans and sent them to me for approval. After I said yes, they had to get approved from city. After all was approved it was time for installation. Everything went better then I expected. The install was fast and clean. They are quick, there is no disruption to you or your family, if you blink you may miss them. Very easy to get in touch with. In fact It was so easy that I still question if they were even at my house! Lucky for them the roof and solar panels at the house is proof that they were there!"

"I contacted Kurt after a search on Angie's List for carpenters. My house was built in 1960 with a and quot;gingerbreadand quot; trim style on the fascia and frontal aspect. The corbels and supported fascia next to our master bedroom windows, on the front of the house, had sustained water damage and rot due to paint failure on the upper surfaces, and we needed to replace the bad wood prior to repainting the house. <br /> Additional component: because the gingerbread-style fascia also supported the roof undersheeting, the front row of shingles would need to be peeled off and replaced after the new wood was in place. <br /> In addition to carpentry services, Kirk's company also does roofing, so he was a perfect fit. I contacted 3 other contractors as well, and although all seemed competent, only Kolb was able to handle both the carpentry and the roof repair. <br /> The wood replacement was a bit interesting, because it required large-dimension lumber, all of which had to be either scroll-cut or radiused to match the original design; this meant that it had to be precut using a large-throat bandsaw prior to installation. <br /> Kurt came out himself to take measurements, copy design and give the estimate, which was in line with the other contractors. We talked about his ability to replicate the original designs, and also to perform the roofing repairs, and I was satisfied that he could do the job, so we went ahead with the work. <br /> Kirk was in contact throughout the process. The job took a day longer than estimated, due to delays in procuring the lumber in the correct size, but once that was done, he and his crew arrived to remove the old wood, install the new pieces (which meant, with the corbels, sawing off the old pieces adjacent to the house so that the new pieces could be lag-screwed into good wood without tearing out the surrounding stucco). <br /> The on-site work of removal, replacement and priming the new wood took only one day, and looked exactly like the original design. They matched the original roofing material perfectly, and it was all done in time for my painter to begin prepping the house for paint 2 days later. <br /> I was completely happy with my choice of contractors for this job. Kirk did everything he promised in a timely manner with quality workmanship - and even came in a bit under the estimate! I have no qualms recommending him for any exterior carpentry or roofing jobs you may have. <br />"

"Franco and his assistant Angel did a beautiful job installing 4 ceiling fans with remote. There was no existing light so they had to run power and create location for ceiling/light fans in 4 separate rooms. Difficult logistics in some rooms but they managed to do a beautiful job. They were on time, courteous and did a wonderful job cleaning up. I will definitely hire Franco (A to Z Handymen) again. Excellent work. Thank-you Franco and Angel!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Borrego Springs, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
