"I had spoken with Charles by phone and he had made suggestions for an appropriate transfer switch (6-circuit) and he suggested that I investigate Panasonic fans.  Panasonic fans have very good reviews online.  I purchased the parts myself.  Charles arrived on time with an apprentice (Russell).  I asked about installing a connection in our backyard for my generator to power the transfer switch.  Charles looked at our vaulted ceilings and property lines and concluded that the power line would need to be installed externally through a conduit.  It would not be easy to put the conduit underground because of existing concrete that blocks the way.  The conduit would need to be above ground along the base of the house and partially through a neighbor's yard, which would probably violate CC&Rs.  I decided against that, we will just use a long cord during emergencies.  We worked through identifying the six circuits to connect to the transfer switch.  He and Russell then installed the transfer switch and the bathroom fans.  When they finished the transfer switch, we connected the generator for an end-to-end test.  It started badly because the generator was running rough (I had never started it before).  Russell suggested that we open the choke, and it started running much better!  Everything was done in less time than I had expected in spite of the training that was being done.  Charles was doing most of the technical work and teaching Russell.  He was charging a flat rate, so taking time to teach was not an issue.  Russell was doing much of the carpentry work and did a very nice clean-up job.  They both were attentive and professional.  I would not hesitate to recommend them or to have them do additional work. <br />"

Customers say: Quick response

"Carson, the front-end man, was very helpful and gave us DIY tips, which we did. When those tasks were accomplished - and failed, we then hired Telelink to repair our internal phone system. Baylor, the fix-it guy, was "johnny-on-the-spot," courteous, and efficient - a guy you feel you can trust to do a good job. Our gratitude for a job well done."

"We are THRILLED with our custom designed cement work by JC Landworks. Our large back patio, wrap around front entertainment and sitting space, front yard stairs, landing, and walkway, driveway expansion, and retaining walls look unbelievable and the stunning work is the talk of the neighboorhood. From day 1 of our total cement remodel it has been a wonderful and exciting experience working with Jesus and his hard working crew. Jesus is creative, innovative, and incredibly respectful. He was able to take what my husband and I envisioned and described, and make it a reality. He and his crew worked tirelessly every day, going above and beyond to make sure everything was cleaned up at the end of every day, and took the time to explain the design and process every step of the way (even staying long past working hours to wait for my husband and myself to both be home to walk us through the final design before the big pour the next day). We truly appreciate his attention to detail, artistic input, and passion for his creations. Jesus gave suggestions, listened carefully, and made sure we were happy with the decisions and outcomes every step of the way. We are completely satisfied, love the results, are excited to start using our new outdoor living spaces, and will recommend Jesus to everyone we know!"

"Franco did a great job installing a backsplash in our kitchen. He made some useful suggestions about the look we wanted to achieve. The project involved first getting rid of a row of tiles at the base of the countertop and took longer than I had anticipated. Franco protected the floors and all surfaces before starting to work and cleaned up completely after he finished.  His work was thorough and professional. He worked non-stop for two days and even made a couple of trips to Lowes to pick up some additional materials. <br /> Hiring Franco is a good idea for specific projects since he doesn't charge by the hour but by the job."

"Tom, the owner, is one of the friendliest, helpful and trustworthy contractors who have worked at our home. He really worked to find the most mutually beneficial time to come to the house. He is as trustworthy as they come. AND my dogs loved him. Tom checked all our landscape lighting, adding uplighting in certain areas and repairing some wiring in others. He replaced our broken transformer and time dial with a much higher quality one with a life-time guarantee. He checked all our drip lines, replacing some which had been eaten through by some kind of animal, replacing some drip heads with others more appropriate to the needs of the plants in the area. Tom also reset our drip timer to correspond to drought restrictions in San Diego. We couldn't have asked for more!"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Borrego Springs, CA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
