"We needed to get our bathroom remodeled, due to a leak developing behind our home's original tile. We had tile floor to ceiling around the entire bathroom that needed to be removed, so basically everything was re-done except for the floor which was recently done. Mike came out quickly to give a quote and provided plenty of detail in an itemized list as requested so I didn't have any surprises. He was helpful with providing guidance while I was picking out all the materials (new tub, tile, faucets, etc.) in the weeks leading up to the renovation. When the job actually started, Mike and his worker were very professional, always on time, and great with communication. We ran into a few hiccups (of course, it's an old house), but Mike was very resourceful in coming up with solutions and the end results came out fantastic. Mike's communication and professionalism is awesome, and as a homeowner going through this whole process which can be scary, is exactly what I was hoping for when finding a contractor. We even noticed some grout cracking as the tiles settled (which is normal), and when I contacted him he immediately made time to come back out and touch it up. I would recommend DeMayo tile to anyone, and I'm looking forward to using them whenever we get around to remodeling our second bathroom."

"I will refrain from requesting work from this contractor in the future. The lack of communication was concerning, as the contractor was not present at my home as scheduled and was significantly late without notice. Additionally, there was no written quote provided prior to the job, only a verbal, which I find unprofessional. The work remains incomplete and of unsatisfactory quality. Furthermore, I believe I was overcharged, as the labor and materials cost does not align with the scope of work completed."

FAQs for tile: ceramic and porcelain repair projects in Bridgeton, NJ

People use the terms refinishing, resurfacing, and reglazing interchangeably. Refinishing is a process that repairs old tiles and gives them a fresh new coat of finish. This is also called tile resurfacing or reglazing.

Yes, you can refinish tiles as a DIY project, but it’s important to follow all the steps involved. These include the following:

  1. Clean the tiles or hire a local tile cleaning service to remove all the residue (soap film, oil, grease, and dirt).

  2. Etch the tile to ensure the refinishing solution adheres properly.

  3. Fill in any cracks or chips in the tile.

  4. Recoat the grout.

  5. Repair any missing or damaged caulking where applicable.

  6. Apply the refinishing product, primer, and enamel.

Your newly reglazed tile should last between 10 and 15 years with proper installation. However, higher-traffic areas and moisture may result in a reduced life span. Explore the cost of different tile types to determine which material works best for your home and needs.

Your bathtub and tile refinishing cost will likely seem like a small price to pay for the transformation it offers. Provided your tile and grout are both intact, refinishing will bring a brand-new style at a fraction of the cost.

Yes, most ceramic tile is paintable with specific epoxy or tile paints. However, you’ll want to avoid areas of heavy use or moisture, such as countertops, showers, and bathtubs. Paint can crack, bubble, or wear away over time, especially on floors.
